This trimaran yacht tore off its rudder on the reef and water entered the hull.
We were able to intervene immediately after being requested by its owner, the crane of the tugboat KUPE was put into action and the salvage balloons deployed from our diving support platform to be installed under the yacht, whose rudder tube was raised more than 20 cm above the surface to allow repair.
The owner was able to carry out repairs on site, saving the insurance company the high cost of towing the yacht to New Caledonia, with the risk of the yacht suffering damage while being towed over such a long distance in the open sea.
The work was carried out by Paul (the owner), whom we helped on request, and lasted 28 days, at the end of which Paul set sail for Noumea in New Caledonia; on arrival, Paul sent us the following message:
"3 days 1 hour for 350 NM with makeshift rudders, I couldn't have dreamed of anything better!
The sea was a little rough for the first 12 hours, then overall good conditions, with a very strong wind at the finish.
Many thanks again to you and Alan for your invaluable help."
