We’re working on Weeley Bypass today, carrying out maintenance on a long avenue of Lombardy poplars.

The work includes a mix of reductions, along with deadwooding and removal of epicormic growth to keep the trees safe and tidy along this busy stretch of road.

We’re back in Clacton today, continuing our street tree maintenance work.
Here you can see two cherry trees being re-pollarded, along with the removal of a large dead limb on one that had unfortunately been struck by traffic.

Pollarding is a long-established method of managing trees in urban areas. Once a tree has been started on a pollard cycle, it’s important to maintain it regularly. This keeps the regrowth controlled and prevents heavy limbs from developing, which could otherwise become unsafe.

Cherries respond well to pollarding when it’s done consistently. The tree naturally produces new shoots from the pollard points, allowing it to regenerate a healthy canopy while staying at a manageable size. Over time, this can actually prolong the life of the tree, reducing stress on the structure and lowering the risk of failure in busy public areas.

Regular cycles like this are key to keeping street trees safe, tidy, and suitable for their surroundings.

It definitely feels like spring has sprung now. At 18 degrees in Colchester today, everything is starting to come to life and the leaves are properly shooting.

We’re not working on this lovely Chinese crab apple in the photos, but we do get to appreciate it while trimming back a large line of conifers nearby.

If you’re thinking about getting your garden summer ready, now is the perfect time to get those final jobs done before everything is fully in bloom.

Give us a call or message to get booked in.

We’re covering a number of jobs today across Jaywick, Frinton and Clacton, carrying out maintenance work on council-owned trees.

This particular job in Jaywick involved re-pollarding a maple tree. This is work we carry out every few years to keep the tree at a manageable size, maintain its health, and ensure it stays clear of the surrounding telephone wires.

Regular maintenance like this helps prevent larger issues down the line and keeps trees suitable for their location.

The full team is out on Lexden Road in Colchester today, working on a large holm oak.

The job involves a light reduction to maintain the tree’s size and shape, helping it remain suitable for its surroundings while keeping it healthy and well balanced.

Due to the high volume of pedestrians and traffic on this stretch of road, and the need to position a 26-metre MEWP on the pavement, we have a full traffic management and pedestrian rerouting system in place to keep everything running safely.

A well planned job in a busy area to ensure minimal disruption and a safe working environment for everyone.

Four of the team were in Langham today, right on the edge of the village where it heads out into the country lanes.

In the hedge line, there was a very dead ash tree that had already started dropping branches into the road due to how brittle it had become. With safety becoming a concern, we stepped in to deal with it before it caused any issues.
Using our own traffic management, MEWP, and crane trailer, we safely dismantled the remaining standing section of the tree, taking it down to just below hedge height.

Another example of getting ahead of a problem before it turns into an emergency.

A full set-up in place today on Frinton Road, opposite Parker’s Nurseries and Garden Centre, where we’re carrying out work on a mature oak tree.

The job involves reducing the tree by around three metres, along with removing deadwood and reducing some of the sail from the canopy to help maintain its long-term stability.

To carry this out safely, we’ve got full traffic management with a road closure, and UK Power Networks on site shutting off the power supply. We’ve also brought in a 26-metre MEWP to give us the reach needed to complete the work efficiently.

With the power shutdown affecting nearby residential properties, we’re working within a tight time window, so it’s very much all hands on deck to get everything completed safely and on schedule.

This work is being carried out for Essex County Council as part of ongoing safety and maintenance for mature roadside trees.

Some of you may have noticed the lane closure and temporary traffic lights in Lawford last week, and we’d like to thank everyone for their patience and apologise for any delays caused.

The work involved taking a large beech tree back to a previous monolith. Structural deficiencies lower down in the tree meant there was a real risk of it splitting out over the road, so reducing it was the safest long-term solution.

We also pollarded a number of the lime trees along this stretch. Following a recent incident where one failed and damaged a nearby house, any trees showing signs of weakness were reduced to help lower the risk and improve safety for road users and nearby properties.

This kind of preventative work plays an important role in keeping roads and homes safe, even if it does cause short-term disruption.

Although we are already a couple of weeks into the year, this is our first post of 2026 and we would like to wish all of our customers a very happy New Year. We are looking forward to getting properly stuck into another busy year ahead, continuing to look after trees across the area and working with so many great clients.

We have started the year with a job at a regular property in East Bergholt, where there is a large avenue of lime trees that we maintain on a pollard cycle.

Alongside this, we carried out a gentle reduction of around 1.5m on a lovely oak tree to keep it in shape, as well as thinning and lightly reducing one side of a beautiful beech tree with a heavy lean. The aim was to help stabilise the tree by keeping the weight more central.

It has also been great to see the snowdrops already appearing in the grass, a sure sign that the year is starting to wake up and the days are slowly getting longer again.

We look forward to working with many of our customers throughout the year and, as always, we are happy to offer advice on any tree work you may be considering.

Please get in touch if we can help.
