Pulled this one out of the archives, my step-by-step video on how I make pickles, just the way my mom taught me. 🥒 It’s from 2021, but the recipe is timeless. Simple, crunchy, and full of that old-fashioned flavour that takes me right back to her kitchen.

If you’ve got cucumbers to use up, this is a good place to start.

Every year, this moment feels like magic. Sun-warmed fruit cradled in my hands, the kind of small harvest that makes your heart swell more than your basket. ☀️

It’s a quiet kind of joy. The kind that comes from planting something, tending to it, and finally holding the proof that it was all worth it.

Here’s to the first of many. 🌿🍅

Garlic scapes are in! 🌱 These are the flower stalks of hardneck garlic—snipping them helps the bulbs grow bigger, and they’re totally edible too!

What is a w**d, anyway? 🌱

A w**d is just a plant in the wrong place. That “wrong place” can mean competition for water, nutrients, and sunlight. That’s why regular w**ding is so important!

Here are my two favorite tools for getting the job done, because pulling w**ds by hand is fine… until your back says otherwise 😉

They say good things take time… and blueberries prove it! 🫐💙

These little berries are finally showing up after three years of waiting. Most perennial fruit bushes, like blueberries, take a few seasons to really get going. Once they do, it’s sweet, homegrown snacking for years to come. Worth every minute (and w**d)!

Potatoes going in! 🥔💚 Plant seed potatoes about 12” apart in a trench 4–6” deep, eyes facing up. As they grow, be sure to hill soil around the stems to boost your harvest. A little prep now = big spud payoff later! 🍟

Why grow onions? 🧅
Onions are one of the easiest and most rewarding crops to grow. They’re low-maintenance, versatile in the kitchen, and a great way to stretch your garden’s harvest into the fall.

Growing tip:
Onions grow best in loose, well-drained soil with plenty of sun. They have shallow roots, so keeping the soil evenly moist (but not soggy) is key for forming nice, full bulbs.

Plant now, and you’ll be enjoying fresh, homegrown flavor in just a few months
