Our Woodland Hut utilises timbers that are very rare and unavailable commercially.
Some of the Oak used in the Woodland Huts construction ensured an afterlife being given to a beautiful old Oak tree that was offered to us after a truly wild Highland storm. This storm affected many trees in the area.
We milled the Oak onsite in the grounds it came down in which was a local historic Scottish Castle. We milled it with a portable sawmill. Then the boards were ferried back up to our workshops by tractor and trailer.
The hand sawn shingles used for the exterior cladding of the Woodland Hut utilise naturally durable Larch originating from windblown trees rescued from a storm at Plodda Falls.
Timber from an old Caledonian Pine tree was used from Glen Morriston as well as a tree from Glen Affric. Glen Affric is one of the few last remaining parts of the stunning ancient Caledonian Forest that once covered much of Scotland.
Port Orford Cedar shingles were also sawn from trees originating from just over the Glen from our workshops.
Not one local tree utilised in the Woodland Huts construction has travelled for more than thirty miles to our workshops. So as far as embodied energy is concerned, this approach makes the Hut just about as green as it can get.
We plant three trees for every one tree used and we have followed this re-planting ethos by sourcing and planting trees in a manner to ensure a future conscious approach to ensure the replenishment of local tree stocks for the last 28 years.
