Would anyone like to help me fill my two remaining purses for this wonderful cause?
Our Rogers County Sheriff’s Office has entered into a partnership with Claremore’s SAFENET Services, Inc, to complete a special Valentine’s Day surprise for a group of exceptionally challenged women. SAFENETServices provides temporary shelter for victims of domestic violence. “Purses with a Purpose” is a project that was designed a few years ago by Maj Coy Jenkins’ wife, Marti Jenkins, when she identified a need to assist women who many times escape violent domestic situations and arrive at the domestic violence shelter with only the clothes on their back.
Marti Jenkins thought it would be an especially kind and considerate gesture to have a nice purse available for each female that arrived at SAFENET, in order to assist them in their emotional recovery, while encouraging them to take control of their life. Marti said, “The whole idea of the program is to provide these ladies with something positive, build up their esteem, and help them through a difficult time in their life. Simple things that the rest of us girls take for granted, like being able to dry their eyes with a tissue, brush their hair, and put lipstick on, could be just the little steps that get them motivated and on the road to recovery.”
If you are interested in assisting in this program, you are asked to acquire a new or “gently” used purse and place a gallon-size Ziploc (w/plastic slide) Storage Bag inside, containing the following specific items: 1.) Pocket Size Travel Pack Tissues 2.) Hand Sanitizer 3.) Ink Pen 4.) Pocket Size Notebook 5.) Hair Brush 6.) Hair Bands 7.) Mascara 8.) Lip Gloss or Lip Stick 9.) Breath Mints or Chewing Gum 10.) Greeting Card with a personally handwritten “Note of Encouragement” (Please Do Not Seal the Envelope). Please consider ‘buddying-up’ with a friend to purchase a new purse and prepare a gallon-size Ziploc Bag with the proper contents.
We are asking participants to deliver each completed purse to either SAFENET Services, 1219 W. Dupont (M-F 9am-4pm) or the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office, 114 S. Missouri Avenue (M-F 8am-5pm), no later than Friday February 10th so we can make the arrangements to have these gifts available on Valentine’s Day.
