Today we remember our founder and friend, Wayne Corne. His memory will live on in our hearts and his legacy will be remembered through the many amazing buildings he designed in our community.

"A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 29, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lafayette, for Wayne L. Corne, age 85, who passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center. The family requests that visitation be observed on Sunday, July 28, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a recitation of the Rosary at 6:00 PM at Martin & Castille's SOUTHSIDE location. Visitation will continue Monday from 9:00 AM until time of services at St. Pius X Catholic Church.

The Interment will be held in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 57 years, Judith "Judy" Johnston Corne; his three sons, Alan Corne, Ross Corne, and Evan Corne and his wife, Kristy Lynne; and his grandson, Elliot Evan Corne.

Wayne attended Mt. Carmel Elementary School and graduated from Cathedral High School Class of 1956. He was the first graduate of USL’s Architecture Department with a Bachelor of Architecture Degree. His professional career began immediately after graduation at CRS in Houston where he had the opportunity to work in Saudi Arabia and on various projects around the United States. He returned to Louisiana to work on the Superdome in New Orleans. He always remembered the day they put up the domed roof taking bets with each other about whether the concept would really work. Returning home he taught 1st year architecture at USL and began his own architectural practice in Lafayette. His projects included virtually all the parishes in southwest Louisiana and several other areas of the state spanning a period of over 50 years. The job he considered his most important accomplishment was the construction of St. Pius X Church in Lafayette.

He loved telling stories about his various work experiences, usually embellishing them with each telling. If the story didn’t make you laugh, his hearty laugh surely would."

Designed by engineer William LeBaron Jenney, The Home Insurance building was supported by a revolutionary steel frame, which allowed for much greater height and stability without the greater weight of traditional masonry construction. This allowed for it's original 10 stories 138 foot tall footprint. The Home Insurance Building was completed in 1885, but was demolished in 1931 to make way for the Field Building (now known as the LaSalle Bank Building).

To all the students in architecture school, you will make models in the "real world"! Here, our architects built a model of St. Pius X Catholic Church to see how the ceiling curves looked and flowed with the rest of the building.

47 years ago today, Corne, Sellers, and Associates was started by Wayne Corne and Eugene Sellers. Since then our name has changed to Corne-Lemaire Group, and now Corne Wilson Architects. In our 47 years of operation, we've had the pleasure of working on many projects in the community we call home!

Happy Birthday Oscar Niemeyer! Oscar continued working well past his 100th birthday, and in total produced more than 500 buildings. Niemeyer gave Brazil a visual voice and a fresh language. One of his most well know buildings is the Niterói Arts Centre, which he designed in 1996 at the age of 89.

Ascension Episcopal School was a brand new building completed in 2009. Starting with master planning the site, all the way to design of the buildings and assisting in equipment and furniture selection for the upper school and gym buildings, Ascension Episcopal High School incorporates the latest in technology, communications and security plus upper end materials and detailing are found throughout while focusing on longer building life.

This brand new facility was completed in 2000 and included facilities for a sophisticated main frame computer system with an accessible floor system that serves all phases of the business. The 290,000 square foot facility includes a fully networked fiberoptic system extended throughout.

The Heymann Center has been a cornerstone of Lafayette since its construction in 1961! However, in 1991, After 30 years of use the Heymann center needed some upgrades. Our firm (Corne, Sellers and Associates at the time) proposed a new design that involved gutting the building and creating an exciting new space. This space includes improved acoustics, more comfortable seating, and enhanced visual appeal that still stands as a Lafayette treasure.

Antonio Gaudi takes his inspiration from nature when designing! His buildings often have unique lines and striking silhouettes, as well as painstakingly intricate detailing. He is most famous for the Basílica de la Sagrada Família in Barcelon, Spain which has been under construction since 1882 with a completion date *tentatively* set for 2026.
