A slow moving May Bug, also known as a Cockchafer, prevalent in May and usually only coming out after sunset but this little chap kindly moved out of our way as we were planting in Sevenoaks. The UK'S largest scarab beetle and completely harmless if a little clumsy. Fascinating and utterly adorable 🙂

I remember when the soil was turned over at Lullingstone Castle's World Garden, where we did the engineering layout, seeds that hadn't been seen for over 50 years suddenly resurfaced and flowered for the first time in over a half century. These poppies never seem to leave, their seeds laying dormant for so long and then suddenly, boom, they're back! Love them. ..

When the temperatures rise, head for the pool. Ok, a pond in this case. Great way to make the most of the sunshine as we plant up the wildlife pond, built by Creative Landscapes at our Sevenoaks project. Yes, it even has steps down into it.

The thing about being a garden designer is that you need to have such a wide ranging knowledge base. That's why I'm so looking forward to reading the first issue of Rock Chisel Surface Stone, packed with fascinating articles on stone masons, quarries, the history of stone use and the craftsmen who make stone tools as well as many others. My simple GCSE in Geology is going to be useful as I delve into this great new magazine ⛏️ for anyone working with natural stone, this is essential reading.

38 years in the business today so thought I would treat myself to a pair of engraved Felcos marked with the date it all began. Are we taking a break to celebrate? Not yet, another van load of perfect plants from Provender Nurseries and we're on the road to the next big planting job. We'll open a bottle of something later 🥂
