Today was a reminder of how dangerous carbon monoxide can be — and how quickly things can turn.

My girlfriend thought she smelled gas in her house earlier. She almost brushed it off, thinking it wasn’t a big deal. Thankfully, I went over to check.

It wasn’t gas.

It was carbon monoxide.

Levels near the boiler were over 300 ppm. For anyone who doesn’t know — that is extremely dangerous. She had been spending time in that exact space.

If I had waited until the end of the day, there’s a very real chance this story would have ended very differently.

Carbon monoxide has no smell, no color, and it doesn’t give you much warning.

PLEASE:• Make sure you have working carbon monoxide detectors in your home• Don’t ignore unusual smells, headaches, or dizziness• If something feels off, get it checked immediately

I see this stuff as part of my job, but today it hit close to home.

Please take it seriously — this can happen to anyone.
