I turned to vermicompost to replenish my soil and want to share that info with you.

🌱 Is your clay soil driving you crazy?
Before you haul in another bag of sand or fire up the rototiller — watch this first.
Most of the advice out there about fixing clay soil is either wrong or makes things worse. And as a soil nerd with 8 years of hands-on experience, it genuinely bothers me when I see good gardeners spinning their wheels on bad information.
Here's what most people don't realize: clay soil is actually one of the most nutrient-rich growing mediums on the planet. The problem isn't the clay — it's how we're treating it.
In this video I break down:
✅ Why clay soil is actually a gift (seriously)
✅ The sand myth that's been wrecking gardens for decades
✅ The simple squeeze test that tells you when NOT to touch your soil
✅ How organic matter and worm castings build real, lasting structure
✅ Cover crops that break up clay without a single tool
✅ What a realistic transformation looks like over 2–4 seasons
No gimmicks. No magic products. Just the science — explained in plain language.

If this was helpful, share it with a gardening friend who's been fighting their clay soil. You might just save them years of frustration. 🙏
💬 And tell me — what's your clay soil situation like? I'd love to hear what you're working with.

🪱 Worm bin question for the vermicomposting crowd…

Should you keep a worm breeding bin separate from your worm castings bin?

Most people run a single worm bin where worms eat, reproduce, and produce castings all in one system. And honestly, that works great for a lot of gardeners.

But if you're trying to produce more worm castings, grow your worm population faster, or scale a worm farm, separating breeding from production can change how your system performs.

In this video I break down:
• The difference between a breeding bin and a castings bin
• When one bin is perfectly fine
• When two bins start to make more sense

Curious how everyone here runs their worms…

🪱 Do you run ONE worm bin or multiple bins?

Most gardeners are sleeping on worm castings — and their plants are paying the price.
I just dropped a new video breaking down exactly why worm castings are one of the most powerful things you can add to your soil, and the science behind it is genuinely fascinating.
We're talking up to a billion beneficial microorganisms per teaspoon, slow-release nutrients that feed your plants for months without burning them, natural plant growth hormones most gardeners have never even heard of, and a biological disease suppression effect that protects your plants from the inside out.
And it doesn't matter if you're growing in a raised bed, starting seeds indoors, or just trying to keep your houseplants alive — castings work across all of it.

If you've ever used worm castings before, I want to know — drop a comment and tell me where you use them most. Garden beds, seed starting, or houseplants?

Starting some spring seeds with a fresh batch of our Sunnyside Soil seed starter mix and my favorite soil blocker.

🌱 Spring is coming and your soil is ready to wake up — are YOU ready to wake IT up?
Most gardeners make one of two mistakes in spring. They either jump in too early and destroy their soil structure by working wet, compacted ground, or they wait too long and miss the window for those early cool-season crops like peas, spinach, and lettuce that actually THRIVE in cool soil.
In our latest Sunnyside Soil video, Sonny breaks down the 5 critical things you need to do right now to get your garden soil ready for your most productive growing season yet.
Here's what you'll learn:
🌡️ How to read soil temperature so you know EXACTLY when to start planting — and which crops can go in first
🪱 How to assess your soil after winter and fix compaction without destroying your soil biology
🌿 Why feeding your soil biology with compost and worm castings matters more than any fertilizer you can buy
🌾 How to get ahead of spring weeds before they take over your beds for the entire season
🍂 The right way to use mulch for direct seeding vs transplants — and why you should pull mulch BACK before planting seeds
Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just getting started, these are the foundational steps that separate thriving gardens from struggling ones.

Stop guessing at compost ratios! This simple kitchen hack guarantees perfect brown-to-green balance every time—no measuring required.
The secret? Fill your countertop compost bin 50% with browns (shredded paper, dry leaves, cardboard) BEFORE you start adding kitchen scraps. As you toss in food waste throughout the week, you'll automatically maintain that ideal ratio for healthy, odor-free compost.
No more smelly bins. No more complicated math. Just fill it halfway with browns first, then compost as usual.
🌱 Try this method this week and let me know how it works in the comments!

While the garden sleeps, our worms are still hard at work 🪱
Even in winter, composting worms are breaking down food scraps and creating nutrient-rich castings that support healthy soil.

Living soil never really rests—it just slows down.

Your worm bin taking FOREVER to produce castings? 😤 I just dropped a new video showing 3 techniques that will speed up your production by 300% — and one of them is so simple you'll wonder why you weren't doing it already.

I used to wait weeks (sometimes months!) for usable castings. Then I discovered these three game-changers:
✅ A simple cardboard + nitrogen recipe that worms absolutely DEVOUR
✅ The pureeing method (cuts processing time from 14 days to 3-4!)
✅ Temperature secrets that tripled my winter production
The best part? You can start with just ONE of these methods and see results immediately.

I've been vermicomposting for years, tested everything, and these are the techniques that actually moved the needle. No gimmicks, no expensive equipment—just proven methods that work.

Drop a 🪱 in the comments if you're ready to speed up your black gold production!
