I got into a conversation yesterday about building a dry stack retaining wall. It reminded me of how much I enjoyed adding stone in my landscape designs. From pea gravel to boulders, stone not only adds drama and depth, but also helps with erosion control. Got rocks:)?!

Can you imagine the torture of growing so many delicious and beautiful heirlooms and having to wait for them to ripen!?!! I REALLY need a slice of a real tomato about now! I can't wait to try several of these! I'll be setting up a Heirloom Tomato Tasting this season! I'll post the details, of course!! Plants are on sale now & produce will be available in season!

The Heirloom Plant Sale was a "Blooming" success! I was delighted to meet both novice and seasoned gardeners from both the Kansas City areas, as well as local residents.

The Tomatoes were a huge hit! Some customer favorites were: Cherokee Purple, Carbon, Costoluto Genovese, Cream Sausage, Orange Icicle, Beefsteak, Indigo Apple, Umberto Pear, and Martino's Roma. Other varieties sold well too:)!

I was delighted to help those who had limited space develop different methods to accommodate their veggie dreams, such as square foot and container gardening. I gave people tours, so that they could actually see different vegetables growing in situ in my hoop house and outside garden. Both my zucchini (Caserta, Fordhook, Golden) and Spaghetti squash are flowering and producing, so in addition to explaining how easy it is to grow vegetables in containers, I was also able to show them:)! At the same time teaching them how to s*x their blooms and pollinate, if necessary. I'm also growing some very interesting varieties of other squash and melons: Sucrine Du Berry, Rich Sweetness, Rouge Vif D'Etampes, are just a couple of examples. I discussed pruning methods for melons that would help keeps their rambling vines in check, while improving the quality of the melons.

The response and experience were very rewarding! In fact, I am going to have a sale and open my garden to private tours on a bi-weekly basis! I planted every plant from seed, and handing my babies off to new parents was awesome! Each customer left knowing the I'm growing to fruit the same plant they purchased, so if they have any questions, they can contact me!

I'm feeling excited about my Heirloom Plant Sale tomorrow! The tomatoes are smiling with their yellow blooms! The zucchini is singing and bearing gorgeous, tasty squash:)! Everything is healthy, lush and green!! It's going to be a fun day! I can't wait to meet new friends and talk about gardening:):)!!
