Designer tip for gorgeous annuals: triangulate your plants! Plant in an alternating pattern, not just straight rows. When placing your flowering annuls, space them so they are the same distance from the two nearest plants so that they are forming an equal triangle together. Help! Something is eating my bean plant! These holes at the edge of the leaf are made by slugs. Look for shiny, slimy trails as proof. Treat the affected areas with diatomaceous earth (silicone dioxide), also packaged as crawling insect killer. Safe for use around kids and pets.

What's eating my Acer rubrum (red maple)? It's bagworm moth! This is the time of year that these moths eggs are developing into larvae and caterpillars. They can defoliate your trees! Get out there and hand pick the eggs, larvae or caterpillars off. Or spray with a biological control BT (bacillus thurigiensis) which stops the caterpillars from feeding. You can also prune out infested branches & dispose of them in the garbage (not your compost!)
