Before you let contractors work at height on your site, ask more than “Do you have a harness?”

Facilities and safety managers should be checking whether there is a proper fall protection plan, site-specific risk assessment, suitable anchorage, competent and medically fit workers, inspected equipment and a practical rescue plan.

The real question is simple:

If something goes wrong, can you prove the work was properly planned and controlled?

TSP Operator, Erector or Supervisor – What’s the Difference?

Working on a Temporary Suspended Platform (TSP) requires more than just knowing how to use the equipment. Different roles require different levels of training, responsibility and competence.

🔹 TSP Operator – trained to safely operate the platform and carry out daily checks.
🔹 TSP Erector – trained to assemble, inspect and dismantle the system correctly.
🔹 TSP Supervisor – responsible for planning, supervision, risk control and ensuring the work is carried out safely.

Giving someone the wrong level of training for the work they are expected to perform can create serious safety and compliance risks.

Where should a TSP operator attach their safety harness?

Not to the guardrail.
Not to the hoist.
Not to the suspension or safety wire rope.

A Temporary Suspended Platform must have a designated harness anchorage point, and the operator’s lanyard must remain attached to that point while working from the platform.

Correct attachment is a basic but critical part of safe TSP operation.

A temporary suspended platform should be inspected before every shift — not only when something looks wrong.

Daily checks help identify problems with:
