Any contractor can knock a hole in your wall, slap a metal chute together, and call it a chimney.

Doing it correctly takes a specific set of structural measurements that you only really learn after decades of fixing other people's mistakes.

If the airflow analysis is off by even a few centimetres, you end up with a living room that quickly fills with noxious smoke the moment a heavy North-Wester hits your roof line.

We check the flue integrity to make sure the toxic gases actually leave the house, and we apply specialised heat-shielding to prevent the intense heat from cracking the structural masonry of your home.

It takes a lot of careful calculation to balance the draw of the air so the warmth enters your living space instead of escaping straight up into the night sky.

A communal family bathroom is one of the trickiest rooms in a house to get right.

It is a shared space that needs to withstand the morning rush, but the owners of this Protea Valley home clearly did not want it to become a chaotic, brightly coloured splash palace for the kids.

We started behind the scenes with precision plumbing and electrical work to ensure the room functions flawlessly under heavy daily use.

From there, our team focused on the visible finishes.

We completed the skimming to get the walls perfectly smooth, applied the final coats of paint, and laid the custom tiling with our usual obsession for straight lines.

A messy site leads to distracted thinking. We clear the rubble as we go because if you can’t see the floors, you can’t see the flaws. There’s another one for you. 😉

𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗧𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗲, 𝗖𝘂𝘁 𝗢𝗻𝗰𝗲
This is the oldest rule in the book for a reason. Wood is expensive, and time is limited. It is much faster to pull out a tape measure one more time than it is to rebuild a frame.

𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗙𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗜𝘁🏄
In the Cape, water is the enemy. Said with love, of course.😤 You don’t try to block it with a hope and a prayer (we’ve tried), you give it a clear path to go exactly where you want it.

𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲
Trying to walk on a floor or paint a wall before it is truly ready is just asking for a failure six months down the line. Unfortunately, you cannot rush chemistry.

These rules were refined by men of few words and many experiences.

In 1982, the first Grundman build stood up to its first North-Wester.

𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘆 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗚𝗼𝘁 𝗔𝗻 𝗨𝗽𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 🧸☔

We recently finished a project in Edgemead where we got to take a cold, empty area and turn it into a space deserving of the title ‘Play Room.’

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿? 𝗪𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝗽.💪

Our team laid the foundations, literally, to start. We raised the walls, fitted the roof, and did everything we knew to ensure a rock-solid structure, which is quite a bit, we might add.

Then, we took it up to the Grundman level. We installed high-spec aluminium to keep the damp out, managed all the electrical work for a bright and safe space, and finished the ceilings and painting to pull the whole look together.

That was probably one of the best parts of the process, seeing it all start to take form. It’s the moment the dream really starts coming to life, and with this one, ‘dream’ really felt like the right word.

Of course, no space is complete without the technical aspects, so before we left, we made sure that every wire and beam was placed perfectly.

The team headed into Monte Vista recently to complete a custom pergola and patio transformation, and we’re just as excited to show it to you as we were to build it for our client.

We wanted to show that even a simple and cost effective structural addition like this added to your home can provide a whole new dimension to how you, your family, and your guests enjoy your time in it.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱-𝘁𝗵𝗲-𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗚𝗿𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿.

We integrated a heavy-duty steel support system specifically designed to withstand the notorious Cape winds. 🌬️🛡️

Then, for the roofing, we went with a hybrid design, giving the family the best of both worlds: polycarbonate sheets for that natural light, and painted aluminium sheeting for total shade where it was needed most. ☀️📐

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻’𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆, 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗹, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵!

We handled the integrated electrical work for new outdoor lighting and the precision guttering for proper water dispersion. ⚡️💧

To prevent any future issues with wood rot, we also applied comprehensive waterproofing across the entire structure, and finally, finished it all off with a paint job that matched the existing aesthetic to the T.
