Ready for the Challenge

Allan Toy has built his experience as Site Manager across crushing and screening, structural and mechanical works, and mining safety.

Joining AMTEC in 2022, Allan has managed numerous project sites, starting with the Sedibeng site in Postmasburg, Northern Cape. He now manages and leads a 35-strong specialist team focused on short-term projects and shutdowns covering civil, structural, mechanical and piping disciplines.

Allan thrives in high-pressure environments where adaptability and strong ex*****on are essential. He places particular value on client relationships, taking the time to what clients need and working to bring out the best in every partnership.

His background in safety means it remains at the top of the list on every project.

AMTEC Celebrates Mandela Day at Khulunowazi Primary School

In the spirit of Mandela Day, AMTEC was proud to support the learners of Khulunowazi Primary School by donating new lunch tins, water bottles, and lunch tin bags to every learner in the school.

To further encourage early childhood development, the Grade R class also received a selection of educational toys designed to make learning both engaging and enjoyable.

🌟 Employee Spotlight | Pieter van der Merwe🌟

Experience That Builds Confidence

For Pieter van der Merwe, successful projects are built on strong leadership, clear communication, and an unwavering commitment to safety. Since joining AMTEC in 2023 as Site Manager at Grootegeluk Mine, he leads a team of 40 people, delivering complex water infrastructure, civil works, clarifier installations, and culvert projects.

Pieter's career has taken him across Southern Africa, from managing the Tweefontein Water Plant and the Wonderfontein Water Treatment Plant to delivering a sewer treatment plant in Mauritius and leading SMPP piping installations at the Kamoa Copper Mine in the DRC. One of his proudest achievements was overseeing the installation of more than 113 kilometres of steel and HDPE piping for the mine's copper reclamation plant.

His leadership philosophy is simple: "Play the ball, not the man." Pieter believes in placing the right people in the right roles, fostering open communication at every level, and creating an environment where every team member can succeed.

Above all, safety comes first. Under his leadership, the Grootegeluk Mine site has achieved an outstanding 1,004 Lost Time Injury (LTI)-free days, a milestone that reflects the dedication and teamwork of everyone on site.
