Another bank-financed project taking shape in Ingwavuma, KZN.

Backed by one of South Africa’s leading financial providers, we’re delivering a commercial energy solution designed to help strengthen day-to-day operations, reduce energy costs and build long-term resilience for local retail.

This is where finance and energy infrastructure come together in a meaningful way: creating stronger businesses, more reliable operations and lasting value for the communities they serve.

Bird droppings are one of the biggest culprits behind solar panel hotspots.

During an inspection at Verve Offices in Simbithi, our team found several panels with bird droppings creating concentrated areas of shading across the modules.

A hotspot is a localised area of a solar panel that becomes significantly hotter than the surrounding cells. When part of a panel is shaded by bird droppings, leaves, dirt or debris, the affected cells can be forced to work differently from the rest of the module, increasing electrical resistance and heat in that particular area.

If that shading remains for long periods, the repeated heat build-up can eventually damage the cells and affect the performance and lifespan of the panel.

We’ve seen the effects of hotspots on other installations, which is why routine inspections and professional cleaning are such an important part of solar maintenance.

Sometimes the problem affecting a system isn’t inside the inverter room. It’s sitting right on top of the panel.

Monitor. Inspect. Maintain.

A little rain wasn’t going to dampen our progress. 🌧️

Come rain or shine, our team is weathering the final stretch in Umhlanga. Commissioning the 360kWp grid-tied solar installation and completing the finishing touches.

The forecast? Another successful project nearing completion.

07/08/2026

What started as an empty rooftop is now a 361.46 kWp commercial solar installation, powered by JA Solar panels and three Sigenergy inverters. Now in place as we prepare for the final commissioning of this commercial grid-tied installation.

A sincere thank you to JT Ross Property Group for the opportunity to deliver this project and for their trust throughout the installation. It's been a rewarding project, and we're looking forward to sharing the finished result, next week, from a successful month in Umhlanga.

It's only when you walk the roof that you appreciate the scale.

This is just the West Wing of our latest commercial installation in Umhlanga, and we're nearly ready to move into the final stages.

One roof. One team. One more project nearing completion.

Almost two years of dust, lime scale and environmental build-up had accumulated across these solar panels.

While rain helps rinse away loose dirt, it doesn't remove the stubborn deposits that slowly reduce the amount of sunlight reaching the cells.

Following a professional clean, the panels are once again able to capture sunlight without that unnecessary barrier, helping the system perform as intended.

Looking after your solar system doesn't stop once it's installed. Regular maintenance is one of the simplest ways to protect your solar investment and keep it performing at its best.

We arrived on site and were greeted by a DB doubling as a very dangerous water feature... 💧⚡

Safe to say, that's a first for us.

We were recently called out to assist at a solar site after the original installers had unfortunately disappeared. We found water pouring out of the bottom of the DC protection DB, an incredibly dangerous situation that required immediate attention.

While it might make for an unusual video, it's a reminder of just how important quality workmanship is. A solar installation involves far more than mounting panels on a roof. Qualified electricians need to carefully consider waterproofing, cable entry points, drainage and the overall protection of electrical equipment.

Poor installation practices don't just affect performance. They can create serious safety risks for both people and property.

If your installer is no longer around or you're concerned about the condition of your solar system, our maintenance team is here to help.

Never underestimate the influence of an old boys' network.

It's not every day that so many Northwood School Old Boys find themselves working together on the same solar project.

Representing Absto Industrial Supplies Industrial Supplies were Craig Viljoen (Class of 2004), Sean Bergset (Class of 1991), Michael Coutts (Class of 2008), and Shaun Viljoen (Class of 2005), while 365 Solar (Pty) Ltd was represented by Ryan Warren (Class of 1990).

It was a pleasure for 365 Solar to design and install a solar solution for Absto's Cornubia facility. Helping the company reduce its energy costs while strengthening the connection between fellow Northwood Old Boys.

Here's to great partnerships, shared values, and the power of the Northwood network.

Cornubia is growing, and we're becoming part of its skyline.

This 250 kW grid-tied system is one of many projects we've delivered across the area, and we're proud to be helping shape Cornubia's evolving skyline with reliable commercial solar solutions.

With more installations underway, this is just the beginning. Keep an eye on our page as we continue showcasing the businesses helping shape a more sustainable Cornubia.
