Another history lesson!

The spirit (or bubble) level was first invented in 1661 and is a sealed glass tube that contains alcohol and an air bubble.

It was first used on telescopes and surveying equipment and slowly over the years was adopted by all contracting trades.

What is a trowel?

A trowel (Or more factually correct, masonry trowel) is a handheld tool used in the construction industry (that being said, there are many variations of the trowel and they are used for many different applications!) by artisans for levelling, spreading and shaping mortar / concrete. A little history!

Did you know that the first hollow concrete block (or cinder block as it was called) was designed by Harmon S. Palmer in the United States in 1890. After 10 years of experimenting, he patented his design in 1900.

His blocks measured 20.3cm x 25.4cm x 76.2cm and they were so heavy that they had to be lifted into place using a small crane 😱🏗️
