Got questions about Treasure Island? We've got answers. πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ

Q: What's your policy on sick children?

A: We keep everyone healthy by asking families to keep sick children home. We understand it's inconvenient β€” we have options to discuss.
Q: Do you accommodate allergies and dietary requirements?

A: Absolutely. We work closely with families to understand and support all dietary needs.
Q: What happens if my child is having a hard day?

A: We communicate with you. Some days are just hard β€” we support your child through it and keep you informed.
Q: Can I visit or drop in?

A: Yes! You're always welcome. We love when parents observe and connect with our space.
Q: How do you handle potty training?

A: We follow your child's lead and your family's approach. We never force it β€” we support readiness.
Q: What if my child doesn't want to come?

A: This is common! We build trust gradually. Most children adjust within weeks and start asking to go to "school."

Your child's nap time is not wasted time. It's essential. πŸ’€

Sleep is when development happens. During rest, your child's brain consolidates learning, emotions regulate, growth hormones release, and immune systems strengthen.
At Treasure Island, we prioritise rest:

πŸ’€ Age-appropriate nap schedules β€” Infants nap frequently, older toddlers typically need one afternoon nap

πŸ’€ Calm, safe sleep environments β€” Dark, quiet rooms designed for rest

πŸ’€ Consistent routines β€” So children's bodies know when to expect sleep

πŸ’€ Respectful wake-ups β€” Never jolted awake, always gently supported back to awareness

πŸ’€ Communication about sleep β€” We track sleep and share patterns with families
When children rest well at daycare, they sleep better at home, too. 😴
Pro tip: Consistent routines at home (bedtime stories, cuddles, predictable timing) support your child's sleep cycle.

You're your child's first teacher. We're here to support, not replace, that role. πŸ’™

Here's something we believe deeply: Parents and teachers are partners.
Your child learns from both environments β€” home and daycare. And the more we communicate and work together, the more seamless the experience is for your little one.
At Treasure Island, partnership means:

πŸ’¬ Daily communication β€” Updates about your child's day, milestones, interests

πŸ“· Photos and observations β€” So you can see what they're learning

πŸ—£οΈ Regular check-ins β€” Not just problem-solving, but celebrating progress

πŸ“ Shared goals β€” Working together on specific developmental focuses

πŸšͺ Open doors β€” You're always welcome to visit, observe, ask questions

πŸ‘‚ Listening β€” Your insights about your child shape how we support them
Your knowledge of your child is invaluable. We don't assume we know better β€” we collaborate.

Your child's nutrition matters for brain development (and it doesn't have to be complicated). πŸ₯—

Early childhood is when eating habits form. What your child learns to enjoy now shapes their relationship with food for life.
At Treasure Island, we offer:

βœ… Nutritious meals and snacks designed to fuel growing bodies and brains

βœ… Variety β€” Exposing children to different foods, tastes, and textures

βœ… Positive experiences β€” No pressure, no bribing, just normalising healthy food

βœ… Responsive feeding β€” Honouring hunger and fullness cues

βœ… Inclusive meals β€” Accommodating dietary requirements and preferences
We work with families to understand dietary needs, allergies, and preferences. Nutrition is partnership. πŸ’™
Plus, eating together is a time for conversation, connection, and community building. Every meal is a learning opportunity.
Your child will grow healthy and strong. 🌟

Every child belongs here. πŸ’™

At Treasure Island Daycare, we celebrate our community's beautiful diversity.
Our children come from different backgrounds, speak different languages at home, have different family structures, and experience the world in different ways.
And that's exactly how it should be.
Exposure to diversity from a young age helps children:

🌍 Develop empathy and understanding for people different from themselves

🌍 Feel confident in their own identity

🌍 Learn that differences are normal and wonderful

🌍 Build cross-cultural communication skills

🌍 Grow into adults who appreciate and celebrate diversity
Our spaces, books, art, and conversations reflect the world our children will inherit β€” a diverse, interconnected, beautiful world.
Your child is welcome here. Exactly as they are. πŸ’™

How much screen time is too much for your little one? πŸ“±

Here's what the research says:
🚫 Under 18 months: Avoid screens (except video chatting with family)

⏰ 18 months – 5 years: High-quality programming only, max 1 hour/day, co-view when possible

βœ… Always: No screens during meals, before bed, or in bedrooms
Why does this matter?
πŸ“Ί Excessive screen time is linked to delayed language development, sleep issues, and attention challenges

πŸ“Ί Play-based learning is what young brains actually need for optimal development

πŸ“Ί Real-world interactions (with people and objects) are irreplaceable
At Treasure Island, there's no screen time in our curriculum. Instead, children spend their days exploring, playing, creating, moving, and connecting.
Your child's brain will thank you. 🧠

Your toddler just had a meltdown over socks. Here's what to do. πŸ’™

Welcome to the emotional rollercoaster of early childhood.
Big feelings are normal. They're not bad behaviour. They're development.
Here's how to handle them:
1️⃣ Stay calm. Your child's emotions won't hurt them, but your panic might.
2️⃣ Name the feeling. "You're feeling frustrated because you want the blue socks." (Validation, not dismissal)
3️⃣ Allow the feeling. "It's okay to feel frustrated. I'm here with you."
4️⃣ Set the boundary. "I can't let you hit, but you can use your words or squeeze this pillow."
5️⃣ Connect after. Once they're calm, talk about it: "That was big. What happened?"
At Treasure Island, our teachers are trained in emotionally-responsive guidance. We don't punish big feelings β€” we help children understand and manage them.
Your child is learning emotional regulation. It's messy. It's normal. And it's beautiful. πŸ’™
Want strategies for your home too?

Is your child ready for Grade R? Here's what "ready" actually means. πŸ“š

School readiness isn't about knowing your ABCs and 123s. It's so much more.
Grade R readiness includes:

βœ… Social-emotional skills β€” Playing with peers, managing emotions, listening to instructions

βœ… Communication β€” Expressing needs, listening, following conversations

βœ… Self-help skills β€” Using the toilet independently, managing belongings, asking for help

βœ… Focus and attention β€” Sitting for a story, following multi-step instructions

βœ… Fine motor skills β€” Holding a pencil, using scissors, drawing

βœ… Confidence β€” Trying new things, separating from caregivers, speaking up

βœ… Curiosity β€” Asking questions, exploring, engaging with learning
At Treasure Island, we intentionally prepare children for Grade R through play-based learning, not worksheets or pressure.
Your child will start Grade R confident, ready, and genuinely excited to learn. πŸ“š

Your toddler can do this themselves β€” and should! πŸ’ͺ

There's a magical moment when your child says, "I do it myself!"
And the best thing you can do? Let them try (with your patient support).
At Treasure Island, we encourage independence in age-appropriate ways:

πŸ‘§ Babies (3-12 months): Self-feeding with fingers, exploring safe objects

πŸ‘¦ Toddlers (12-24 months): Feeding with spoon, drinking from cup, attempting to dress

πŸ‘§ Preschoolers (2-5 years): Using toilet independently, washing hands, getting dressed, cleaning up
Independence builds:

πŸ’ͺ Confidence ("I can do hard things!")

πŸ’ͺ Problem-solving skills

πŸ’ͺ Self-esteem and pride

πŸ’ͺ Readiness for school

πŸ’ͺ Less power struggles (seriously β€” autonomy reduces resistance)
Our teachers provide scaffolding β€” we help just enough so they can do it themselves. It takes longer, it's messier, and it's absolutely worth it. πŸ’™
Watch your child surprise you with what they can do. 🌟
