Introducing House Tranquility
Boggomsbaai, Western Cape
Where Coastal Living Finds Its Rhythm
Set along the rugged fynbos slopes overlooking Vleesbaai, House Tranquility rises from the landscape with a quiet confidence. The coastline, the migrating whales, and the shifting colours of the sunrise, these elements shaped every line, material choice, and spatial decision in this unique coastal residence.
Positioned to capture uninterrupted 180-degree ocean vistas, the home embraces its east-facing orientation, welcoming in morning light and framing the ever-changing sea. Conceived as both a part-time retreat and a comfortable base for everyday living, it embodies our client’s wish for a space that is uncomplicated, enduring, and deeply connected to its natural surroundings.
The architectural language blends the familiar warmth of Cape vernacular forms with a refined, modern sensibility. Durable finishes, simple geometries, and a strong, sustainable framework all support the home’s biophilic design principles, creating an environment that feels grounded, calming, and authentic to its place.
Inside, the heart of the home is an open-plan living space that flows toward the horizon. Kitchen, dining, lounge, and a traditional braai niche come together in one generously lit volume, where sunlight and coastal views shape the daily experience.
Each bedroom wing has been crafted with intention:
•The primary wing holds two spacious en-suite rooms, both catching the gentle northern and eastern light.
•The guest wing mirrors the ocean-facing views and functions flexibly, fully connected for family stays, yet self-contained enough to operate as an independent suite when needed.
Behind its serene presence lies a thoughtful system of sustainable technologies:
• Solar generation with battery backup for energy independence
• Rainwater collection and mechanical ventilation for clean, efficient airflow and water use
• A concealed service core that organises all technical systems out of sight
• A sheltered internal courtyard that introduces fresh air, daylight, passive cooling, and a calm outdoor refuge protected from coastal winds
Despite the site’s steep 9.2m fall, the home settles organically into the terrain, balancing landscape, structure, and the rhythm of coastal weather. The result is our signature interpretation of CapeScandi: clean modernity softened by nature, simplicity enriched by context.
