By the time landscape is specified on most projects, the decisions that matter have already been made.

Drainage has been solved with pipes. Cooling has been solved with plant and equipment. Water has been solved with a supply line. Those solutions work. They are also the default, chosen before anyone asked whether the landscape itself could carry part of the load.

That question is worth asking earlier. Water, soil and planting can be designed as one system that manages rainfall, moderates heat and holds soil in place, alongside the engineered systems rather than instead of them.

Density like this is unusual in the Gulf, and it does not happen by accident. A canopy this closed comes from species chosen for the soil they are actually going into, layered planting that lets the understorey survive its first summers, and an establishment period long enough for the landscape to stop needing help. Most schemes are judged at handover. This kind of result is only visible years later.

Worth remembering when the region talks about walkability. Shade is the deciding factor, and shade is grown.
