The Sheikh Zayed Mosque, a Ministry of Public Works project in Fujairah, will be the second largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates, when completed in July 2012. Even its final size is yet to be determined The Sheikh Zayed Mosque of Fujairah will have an approximate capacity for 28,000 worshippers and will consist of a main prayer hall and an external open courtyard for prayer.. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, which encompasses 22,412 square meters, is the largest in United Arab Emirates.The name ‘Sheikh Zayed Mosque’ has given to it to commemorate the life and legacy of the ‘father of the nation - Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’. The Mosque is being constructed by the United Engineering Construction which is based in Dubai with offices in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.Since 1993 UNEC has acquired a vast and varied portfolio of large projects including residential towers, residential developments, educational and commercial buildings, hotels, hospitals and libraries. Over these two decades the UENC has constructed more than six mosques, including the Grand Mosque in Sharjah. The architects are a Malaysian firm, Arkitek ICB aided by Mabani Consultants.The cost of the new mosque is AED 190,500,000.00 or US$ 52.1 million.

Shaikh Zayed Mosque is the 17th project of E Force in UAE.As we mentioned in our last article about the Safeer mall and Hypermarket project in Fujairah, the steel price during that construction period was very high. But when we come to now, the entire picture has changed and steel price has gone down to almost 1/3 of what it was before. But for this project, Sheikh Zayed mosque they have considered post tensioning from the beginning because of the structural specialties of this project. As we mentioned above it is the second largest mosque in UAE, which can accommodate almost 28,000 people at a time.
Long spans and large domes made the designers to think about post tensioning even the steel price is not high. It's our pride to say that Force was involved in the preliminary design stage of this project and the original Post tensioning design of this project was done by us only. Ground level slab consists a combination of hollow core and post tensioning design, and for the other levels they completely adopted post tensioning which emphasis the importance of post tensioning in larger construction once again. Total Post tensioning Quantity of this project is about 150 ton, once it completed . Post tensioning beams are the strength of horizontal elements in this project most of the domes are placed on the PT beams. E Force managed to develop a safe and economic PT design for this project , Even though the steel price is low, Post tension design helped to reduce the total construction cost and will be accounted on the saving side .The project work progress is very fast and expected to finish on time. Multi-strand corrugated flat duct bonded system with anchorage set SF305, SF405 and SF505 are used for the project.
