A lot of parquet gets ripped out that could’ve just been sanded.

If it’s solid wood, each sanding takes off less than a millimetre. Scratches, grey patches, old varnish: none of that is a reason to replace it.

Check before you decide. Pull one skirting board and measure the wood above the tongue. Only replace it if there’s water damage, rot or loose boards underneath.

Most renovation budgets don’t blow up at the builder. They blow up at the decisions nobody made early enough.

Where the sockets go. Which wall can actually move. What happens to the damp once it’s covered.

By the time you notice, it’s already plastered over.

Porzellan wird über 1200 Grad gebrannt, der Ton wird dabei fast zu Glas. Wasseraufnahme unter 0,5 Prozent. Keramik wird niedriger gebrannt, bleibt porös und kann je nach Fliese 3 bis 10 Prozent Wasser aufnehmen.

Das heißt nicht, dass Keramik schlecht ist. Es heißt nur, sie gehört nicht überall hin. Duschwände, Duschboden, überall wo Wasser steht oder direkt drauf spritzt, das ist Porzellan-Gebiet. Keramik ist völlig okay an einer trockenen Badwand oder als Spritzschutz, überall wo Wasser nur kurz hinkommt.

Der Fehler ist nicht, Keramik zu wählen. Der Fehler ist, sie dort einzusetzen, wo eigentlich Porzellan hingehört, und das merkst du erst drei Jahre später, wenn die Fugen anfangen sich zu verfärben und die Fliese alt aussieht.

Frag deinen Fliesenhändler nach der Wasseraufnahme, bevor du eine Dusche fliesen lässt. Diese eine Zahl sagt dir, ob die Fliese dahin passt.

Ein Grundriss zeigt dir nicht das ganze Gebäude. Er zeigt dir nur einen von fünf Blicken drauf.

Schnitt, Ansicht, Grundriss, Axonometrie, Perspektive, jede zeigt was anderes. Erst zusammen ergeben sie das volle Bild.

It’s a water thing, not a status thing.

Porcelain is fired above 1200°C, water absorption under 0.5%. Ceramic is fired lower, stays porous, absorbs 3-10% depending on the tile. Neither is “better.” Ceramic is fine on dry walls and backsplashes. Porcelain is for anywhere water sits or sprays: shower walls, shower floors.

The mistake isn’t picking ceramic. It’s putting it where porcelain belongs, then wondering three years later why the grout’s stained and the tile looks tired.

Ask your supplier for the absorption rating before you tile a shower.
