// REVISITING ROSE AM LEND, GRAZ //
Nearly two decades ago, INNOCAD transformed one of the oldest buildings on Lendplatz in Graz. Through the Styrian renovation programme, 11 affordable apartments were created, allowing existing tenants to remain while welcoming new residents. The project’s identity draws on the building’s past: the original “am Lend” lettering from the former shoe shop inspired its name, while the rose motif references both its Baroque origins and the nearby statue of Saint Rosalia. Today, the roses have become a recognisable feature of Lendplatz, appearing in everything from wrought-iron details to façade reliefs.

We also revisit ROSE AM LEND through "Von Menschen und Häusern – Architekturjahrbuch Graz Steiermark 2008/2009", published by Haus der Architektur Graz (HDA), curated by Ilka and Andreas Ruby, and recognised as one of Austria’s Most Beautiful Books 2009. Featuring photographs by Livia Corona, the yearbook explored architecture through its relationship with the people and communities surrounding it. ROSE AM LEND demonstrates how architecture can contribute to urban transformation while preserving a neighbourhood’s history, character, and sense of place. // REVISITING MICROSOFT HQ VIENNA //
Completed in 2011, the Microsoft Austria Headquarters in Vienna was designed by INNOCAD architecture as part of Microsoft’s "New World of Work" concept, at a time when flexible and activity-based working was still a relatively new approach. Rather than creating a uniform office environment, INNOCAD developed a diverse spatial landscape in which each room had its own identity, atmosphere, and function. The 23 meeting rooms were designed in different configurations and complemented by lounges, cafés, a library, retreat rooms, communication areas, and spaces for spontaneous meetings or focused work. Distinctive details, such as the large-scale X-ray image of a computer at the reception and the slide connecting the two floors, reinforce the project’s dialogue between technology, communication, and new ways of working.

As part of our retrospective, we also explore the headquarters through the lens of Austrian artist and photographer Marina Faust, whose photographs were originally taken 15 years ago for the French art and architecture magazine FROG. Her images capture the atmosphere and individuality of the workplace through its spaces, materials, and details, offering a distinctive visual perspective on the project. Fifteen years later, the headquarters provides an opportunity to reflect on an early interpretation of flexible working and the role of architecture in shaping new workplace experiences. // CHAPTERS IN NATURE INSIDE: A BIOPHILIC DESIGN GUIDE - 2ND EDITION //
We are honored to be featured in the second edition of Nature Inside: A Biophilic Design Guide, authored by Bill Browning and Catie Ryan and published by Routledge and RIBA Publishing (UK). The book brings together research, principles, and international examples that explore how biophilic design can reconnect people with nature and contribute to human health and well-being.

Our contribution includes two of our healthcare projects, the FRACTAL CHAPEL at the University Hospital Graz and the Palliative Care Unit at Regional Hospital Südweststeiermark in Deutschlandsberg, both by INNOCAD architecture. The projects explore the integration of fractal patterns, light, and sensory experiences into healthcare environments, demonstrating how biophilic design strategies can support spaces for comfort, recovery, and healing.

In addition, Richard P. Taylor, Anastasija Lesjak, and Martin Lesjak contributed a chapter to the book, sharing insights into fractal patterns and their role in biophilic design. Their research explores how the geometries found throughout nature can inform architectural and design strategies that support human well-being.

// APT PHD FEATURED BY INTERIORES MINIMALISTAS //
Interiores Minimalistas, the Spanish publication dedicated to architecture, interior design, and contemporary design, has featured APT PHD by INNOCAD architecture. With a strong editorial interest in minimalist aesthetics, carefully considered interiors, materiality, spatial clarity, and contemporary design, the platform explores projects where architecture and design come together to create thoughtful and enduring spaces.

For this historic apartment renovation in Graz, INNOCAD architecture reorganized the 114 m² interior to create a clear dialogue between heritage and contemporary living. Existing herringbone parquet flooring and large double doors remain defining elements of the apartment, while new minimalist interventions introduce a fresh spatial language. At the heart of the layout, a compact bath box becomes the architectural anchor, organizing the entrance, kitchen, dining area, and private spaces around it. The result is a balance between what was already there and what is newly introduced, preserving the character of the historic apartment while creating a calm and contemporary living environment. // BEST OF INNOCAD – RESIDENTIAL PROJECTS //
We want to introduce three selected residential projects that have shaped our architectural approach and explore how our understanding of housing has evolved across different scales and challenges.

It starts with the question of how architecture can create more than living space. C34 in Graz combines a historic Art Nouveau building with a contemporary extension. Diverse apartment typologies, shared outdoor spaces and sustainable strategies demonstrate how adaptive reuse can preserve identity while creating new possibilities for living together.

FLUR 20 takes this approach further by exploring how high-quality residential architecture can be achieved within economic constraints. A modular planning system generates around 40 apartment typologies, offering diverse living arrangements while maintaining construction efficiency. Flexibility becomes a tool for long-term usability and affordability.

With AM KAI, the perspective expands from the individual residential building to the city. Housing, working, commercial and public functions come together within a mixed-use urban development. Clear urban structures and carefully designed open spaces create an active neighbourhood that responds to the changing demands of contemporary urban life.

Once again, INNOCAD architecture is featured in this year’s edition of ARCHITECTS. We are delighted to be included in the publication for the fifth consecutive year.

ARCHITECTS highlights the work of selected Austrian architecture practices and their responses to the challenges shaping the profession today. In a time defined by rising construction costs, resource constraints, increasingly complex building processes, and growing demands for sustainability and energy efficiency, the publication demonstrates how thoughtful design can deliver meaningful, resilient, and future-oriented solutions.

This year’s contribution features THE GRID for our client Verbund AG, a project that embodies our design philosophy of New Holism through the transformation of a post-war office building within a sensitive historic context.
