… project villa o | vienna | 2023

… an old house, refurbished and extended: a new open living space with a garage below and a guest suite on top.

… towards the street, we kept the facade calm and intimate. towards the garden, it opens up and lets nature in.

… natural stone, wood, plaster and a warm lighting concept. nothing more.

.. the printer called. newsprint is so thin, they said, it creases. wouldn't we rather switch to gloss?
.. we stayed with newsprint. we believe in the beauty of raw concrete, old screed and cracked timber. and in paper that creases. it is the imperfect that makes a house worth looking at and worth living in.
.. inside: our projects, from a kindergarten in Ramsau to a barrel hall for Weingut Scharl, where the stacked barriques set the shape of the building. form follows fass.

.. "the barrels need space!" 54 barriques, stacked so that a machine can move them. from this arrangement we derived the pitch of the roof, and with it the shape of the whole building.
.. during the design, the brief grew. instead of just a warehouse, the building gained a second purpose: a tasting room, a room within a room. the height inside creates a second level above the bottle store, with a view onto the barrels. pure materials inside and on the outer skin: clay plaster, concrete, larch and aluminium sheet.
.. side fact: the lights are made from old barrel hoops.

... a quiet room takes shape at a busy table
.. sketches, models and a board of samples: stone, timber, metal and plaster. we move them around until nothing feels at odds with anything else
.. the shelf holds traces of the projects that took shape here.

… our studio bathroom shows how this works on a small scale: a rough wall, smooth copper and soft fabric.

project weltwien | 2023 | vienna

… a historic corner building in vienna’s 12th district, built around 1900.

… inspired by the spirit of the „Wiener Werkstätte“, we set out to create a dialogue between past and present. rather than recreating history, we drew on the building’s original character, reinterpreting its details through a contemporary lens.

… carefully chosen materials, craftsmanship and an attention to the smallest details bring warmth and character to the spaces, creating something that feels both timeless and distinctly its own.

… a house with a history to tell, and a new chapter to unfold.
