In December, we organized Memories of Water in Linz — a public event and interactive workshop at , right in the middle of the Christmas Market. The workshop marked the kickoff of our residency .
In a cozy “data acquisition salon” atmosphere, we invited visitors to share their sensory perception of Linz — not through words alone, but through smell. Participants mixed different fragrance notes and essences into candles, translating their personal experience of the city into scent. What does Linz smell like? Fresh? Industrial? Sweet? Foggy? Each candle became a small, sensory narrative.
Alongside the workshop, we created a “water bar.” Visitors were offered water from the district they live in. This became our playful mapping strategy: by serving water from different areas of the city, we were able to trace which districts were represented and how people geographically connect to Linz.
Stories of Water explores how cities can be experienced beyond the visual — through smell, taste, and shared conversation — turning sensory memories into collective knowledge.
