MO architektur+design MO architektur+design

Old and New in Dialogue – A Campus for Education, Culture, and Community.
As part of the competition to expand the school campus in St. Peter/Au, a new complex brings
together a music school, library, music association and brass band in one single location.
In MO’s competition entry the existing tower becomes the central focal point of the design—a
striking landmark and arrival point that connects the campus to the market square.
New facades and a covered loggia create fluid transitions between the building, the square,
and the landscape. Two distinct outdoor areas are created: a sheltered campus courtyard and
an open public square for markets, a library café, and events.
A “green gateway” connects the courtyard and the square, weaving existing structures and
new architecture into a cohesive campus.

Alcova Milano / Fuorisalone – at the Baggio Military Hospital, a former military hospital complex from the interwar period, existing structures meet new materials, architectural concepts, and experimental design.
In the raw spaces, designers showcase innovative materials and prototypical approaches. What’s exciting is how context, atmosphere, and even transience are deliberately incorporated into the design.
For MO, this offers a clear insight into current topics—from circular materials to new spatial concepts. More of a laboratory than an exhibition.

🪵 TMW Café – Materials & Details
At TMW Café, carefully selected materials and thoughtful details shape the experience:
• Solid three-layer wood panels form the structural elements, complemented by steel and patterned glass elements.
• The tabletops were custom-designed and costum-made fort he tmw: linoleum surface with metal edge – durable yet softer than stone, supporting acoustic comfort.
• Linoleum is also used for the seating steps and can be sustainably replaced.
• Numerous upholstered benches create a cozy atmosphere while enhancing acoustic performance.
The result is a space that is aesthetic, functional, and sustainable.

Article in the PRESSE spectrum - Architecture & Design, (Issue June 15, 2024)
An aging summer house (wooden structure) on stilts in the floodplain of the Danube has been thermally renovated and redesigned.
„The rooms were very small and unsuitable for a family. We removed all the partition walls to maximize the space and accommodate everything,“ explains MO architect Olivia Wieser. (Excerpt from the article)
The design of the living space is inspired by a ship motif. The wooden elements were whitewashed, and the kitchen and bathroom have been newly designed with high-quality materials. Due to the very limited usable space, all walls were optimally utilized. A shelf with a sliding wall separates the living and sleeping areas. Additionally, a tube is integrated into the shelf, which, when opened, extends the sleeping area and serves as a play area for the children during the day. The built-in bench in the living area is not only space-saving but also offers additional storage space.

Renovation, Refurbishment, and Interior Design of a Medical Practice

The medical practice of the physician community is located on the ground floor of an existing townhouse in the historic city center. Through the portal renovation, the entrance area has been made more attractive, an outdoor waiting area has been created, and accessibility has been made barrier-free and secure. In the interior, the sustainable approach involves working with existing elements, such as the red flooring, and integrating them into a new design concept. Oiled wood, high-quality curtain fabrics, and a new lighting concept create a pleasant atmosphere in the waiting area. The newly designed window sills and radiator covers made of solid wood can also be used as benches. Ergonomic workstations with height-adjustable desks, sightlines to the doctors‘/treatment rooms, and to the patients in the waiting area, as well as to the protected wardrobe, enable the staff to have an overall view. Surfaces & Materials|Products: Solid wood-core beech/Acrylic stone/Stainless steel (Niro); Lighting_XAL; Fabrics_ROHI.
