What is Venetian plaster? 💭

A question I’m asked frequently!

Venetian plaster is a broad term for products derived of slaked lime putty and marble dust. Mixed into a trowel on plaster, it is applied in one or multiple coats.

Compressing the marble creates depth and movement through the various layers, while strengthening and polishing the surface. This technique is centuries old & uses finer, Italian
polished plasters. Coarser varieties include sand for a thicker bodied, more textured finish.
