Part 2: Steel in the Sky
After the impossible excavation in Part 1, the next phase of this build begins to rise.
With the foundations now locked into the hillside, the structural steel framework is starting to take shape — the backbone of what will become a dramatic counter-levered deck suspended above the landscape.
This isn’t just steel. Every beam has been engineered with millimetre precision to transfer enormous loads back into the bored piers we installed deep into the rock. The result is a structure that appears to float, but performs with absolute structural integrity.
Getting the steel into position on a site like this is no small feat. Tight access, steep terrain and limited working space mean every lift is carefully choreographed, every connection meticulously checked.
It’s a moment we love on projects like this — when months of engineering, planning and problem solving start to become real.
From here, the skeleton of the decking will begin to be laid, but this steel structure will always remain the hidden strength behind the architecture.
At AP Designer Homes, we don’t shy away from complex projects.
We lean into them.
Because when the site says impossible…. we see possibility.
Stay tuned for Part 3.
