On this day 12 May (1904), Thomas "Anglo" Horton, 24, was hanged for murdering his estranged wife, Florence, 21. Known as "Anglo the Juggler", in May 1903, Thomas was billed as the star of a six-night season at the Tivoli. He featured in the journal "Magic" with a front page entitled "Australia's greatest juggler and equilibrist". Losing his first wife, Julie, to illness, he hastily remarried Florence, who claimed he was possessive, violent, and jealous. After their separation, Thomas followed her one evening, shooting Florence dead in the street in Adelaide. Just short of three months later, he was hanged, and three years later, his book "The Art of Modern Juggling" was published. Sadly, both Florence and Julia lay in unmarked graves in West Terrace Cemetery, Adelaide. Thomas is buried in the NW angle of the Adelaide Gaol between the outer walls.
