Opening this space up changed everything.

At the centre of the new garden is a concrete swimming pool, designed and constructed by our team as part of the broader landscape. Positioned to one side, it allowed us to retain a generous area of lawn and make better use of the space.

Removing the existing pergola and shed brought natural light back into the home - something that had been missing for a long time. In its place, a new cathedral-style pergola sits higher and lighter, providing shade without closing the space in.

The pool is simple in form, with the surrounding planting softening its edges. Steppers sit within Dichondra, planting works between the built elements, and layers of texture will continue to develop as the garden establishes.

The house, garden and pool were considered as one - creating a space that feels open, functional and connected.

Breakaway | Royal Adelaide Show 2026

Our fourth consecutive show garden at the Royal Adelaide Show Looking back at where we started four years ago, it’s pretty special to see how these gardens have evolved alongside our team, and how much more we’ve been able to explore with the planting, materials and finer details each year.

Breakaway explores the slow return of nature to a once-lived-in space- what happens when the built landscape is left behind and nature begins to take it back.

Concrete weathers and breaks, bricks soften with age and planting begins to find its way into the spaces between. A cracked concrete water tank collects water from a dripping galvanised pipe, water trickles over moss-covered rocks, and plants emerge through paving, cracks and voids through the garden.

Planting is at the heart of Breakaway, with more than 30 different species layered throughout the space. Among them Alternanthera porrigens, Mahonia japonica, Fuchsia procumbens, Lecanopyeris pustulata, Scleranthus biflorus, Eutrema japonicum (wasabi), Tillandsia usneoides and Cyathea cooperi.

Ferns emerge beside concrete, mosses and groundcovers settle between paving, air plants find their way across the walls, and plants spill into cracks and pockets throughout the garden. Some have come from our own collection and were grown on specifically for the display, while others were sourced and set aside months ago with the help of our nursery partners.

The hardscape is a credit to our talented team of builders and landscapers, with an enormous amount of skills, time and attention to detail going into every element of the garden. We’re so proud of every single one of you.

And to the nurseries, growers and suppliers who support these gardens- thank you. This wouldn’t be possible with you.

A special thank you to Krause Bricks our major sponsor this year, and to all of the businesses who supported Breakaway.

Twenty years.

It’s a number that’s hard to comprehend.

When yergan began in 2006, I had big plans for the business. I wanted to create exceptional landscapes, work alongside good people and build something I could be proud of. Looking back now, I don’t think I could have imagined where that journey would lead.

Over the last twenty years we’ve had the privilege of transforming hundreds of gardens, taking on projects that have challenged us, inspired us and encouraged us to keep improving. We’ve been fortunate to create award-winning show gardens, represent our industry nationally and work with incredible clients across South Australia and beyond.

As proud as I am of those projects, I’m even prouder of the business we’ve built behind them.

From the beginning, we made a conscious decision to keep every stage of the journey under one roof. Today, that means a team with an incredibly broad skill set - landscape design, construction, concrete pools and garden maintenance.

It hasn’t always been the easiest path, but it’s been the right one.

Having that continuity means we never lose sight of the original vision, and that’s something I’ll never take for granted.

None of this has ever been achieved alone.

To every team member who’s worn a yergan shirt, every client who’s trusted us with their home, every supplier, subcontractor and friend who’s backed us over the years - thank you. You’ve all helped shape yergan into what it is today, and I’m incredibly grateful for the role you’ve played in its story.

Twenty years feels like a milestone worth celebrating, but it also feels like the beginning of another chapter.

Here’s to what comes next.

What started as a conversation with Boral Australia quickly became one of the most exciting and challenging projects our team has worked on.

In just 7 weeks, this display was designed, constructed in South Australia, freighted interstate and installed onsite at ICC Sydney for Futurebuild Australia 2026.

Every concrete element was formed, poured and finished by our team before being packed onto 8 pallets and transported to NSW. From Colori® coloured concrete and Exposé® exposed aggregate finishes to ENVIROCRETE® recycled glass concrete, Permcon permeable concrete and recycled asphalt applications - this project pushed us creatively and gave us the opportunity to explore materials we hadn’t worked with before.

Designed to feel immersive, modular and transportable, the display invited people to walk through the space, interact with the materials and experience concrete in a completely different way.
A massive team effort and a project we’re incredibly proud of.

A massive effort from our entire team to pull this together in such a short timeframe. Huge credit to everyone involved, with a special mention to Janek Coleman for building all of the custom for work and burnishing many of these elements.

A project we’re incredibly proud of.

Big thank you to Kenthurst Nursery for going above and beyond to help us pull this together, and to Redstem Nursery for supplying some incredible miscanthus from SA for the display.

Our Acacia garden is one of those gardens that feels just as good in winter as it does on a warm evening.

From the beginning, the design brief centred around creating a versatile garden that could be used year-round - somewhere equally suited to entertaining, quiet evenings, and everyday life.

The sunken seating area and fire pit were designed to become the heart of the garden once the temperature drops, naturally drawing people in and encouraging people to slow down and stay a little longer.

With the fire on, water moving and the garden lighting settling in, the whole space takes on a completely different feel at night. Rather than separating the pool, entertaining area and planting, the focus was on creating one cohesive environment that works together as a whole.

There’s something pretty satisfying about seeing weeks of work finally loaded onto a truck and heading off to its next destination.

Today, these concrete elements began the journey to Sydney for 2026.

Over the past few weeks, our team has been busy building formwork, pouring concrete and finishing each piece before they make their way to ICC Sydney, where they’ll form part of a 6 x 9m installation delivered in partnership with

Like most projects, there’s been long days, problem solving and plenty happening behind the scenes, so it’s nice to finally see everything heading out the gate.

Big thank you to for having us involved, and to our whole team for the effort that’s gone into pulling this together over the past few weeks. Special mention to as well for the huge amount of work he’s put into these elements.

If you’re heading to this month, come by and say hello!
