Soil Technician
POSITIONS AVAILABLE for a 6 month contract in Derby WA
Looking for an experienced Soil Technician to work in Derby (Kimberley region) based at the MRWA Department.
Technician is required to be experienced in soils and concrete testing as a minimum, must be able to travel to project sites within the Region and desirably have materials search experience.
Working Hours are approximately 45 hours/week however additional hours maybe required from time to time to meet operational needs. The period of engagement will be up to 18th December 2026.
You will need a Police Clearance, Drivers licence (HR desirable) and hold a current Radiation (NDM) licence.
Relocation costs will be covered and housing will be provided.
Excellent rates paid for the successful applicants.

Due to an ever increasing workload Great Southern Geotechnics are now seeking both experienced and entry-level technicians to join our dynamic and ever-growing team.

The positions are based in Albany WA but also offer opportunities to work abroad in various locations across WA in either a FIFO or DIDO roles.

As a Soil Technician, you’ll play a key role in conducting soil sampling, testing, and analysis for a wide range of projects.

Whether you’re an experienced technician or someone that has just left school looking to start your career, this position offers the chance to develop your skills and contribute to our mission of delivering high-quality geotechnical services.

All candidates must have a manual drivers licence, however, experienced technicians must also have a current NDM licence and a Diploma of Laboratory Technology as a minimum.

Assistance with relocation can be arranged for applicants with prior experience if required. These positions are for an immediate start.

Experienced Soil Techs Wanted -

Looking for experienced Soil Technicians for contract work in the Wheatbelt, based at MRWA Departments.
Min 6 months contract with possibility of extensions.

Must have a background in soils and concrete testing as a minimum and be able to travel to project sites within the Wheatbelt Region, preferably with experience in undertaking gravel search and procurement of gravel in the Wheatbelt Region.

Working hours are approximately 40 hours/week with any additional hours as flex hours.

You will need a Police Clearance, Drivers licence and hold a current Radiation (NDM) licence.

Relocation costs will be covered and suitable housing will be provided.

TRAINEES WANTED - Soil Technicians

Looking for a career change of just getting into the workforce?

GSG are seeking a motivated and reliable Trainee Technicians to join our Construction Materials Testing (CMT) team based in ALBANY WA.

This entry-level role provides hands-on training in the laboratory and field, where you will learn to perform a wide range of soil, aggregate, and concrete tests in accordance with Australian & Main Roads WA Standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Assist with the sampling, preparation, and testing of soil, aggregate, concrete, and other construction materials to relevant test methods.
*Carry out basic laboratory tasks including weighing, measuring, mixing, curing, and recording test samples.
*Assist in field testing activities such as:
Nuclear Density compaction testing.
Perth Sand Penetrometer (PSP) and Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) testing.
Concrete sampling and slump testing.
Stockpile and In-Situ sampling.
*Accurately record and report test results in line with company quality systems.
*Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environment in both lab and field settings.
*Follow Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) procedures at all times.

SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
*Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
*Physically fit and able to work outdoors in varying conditions.
*Good communication and teamwork skills.
*Willingness to learn and follow instructions.
*Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Word/Excel).
*Current driver’s licence (manual required).
*White Card.

QUALIFICATIONS

*No prior experience required – full training will be provided.

CAREER PATHWAY

*Technicians will commence on a three-month probationary period. Upon successful completion, they may be offered a traineeship beginning with a Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques.

*This trainee role offers on-the-job training with opportunities to gain formal qualifications such as:

*Certificate IV in Laboratory Skills (Construction Materials Testing).

*NATA-accredited training in soil, aggregate, and concrete testing.

*Progression into Laboratory Technician, Field Technician, or Senior CMT roles.

Entry Level TRAINEE WANTED

Great Southern Geotechnics (GSG) is a West Australian owned and operated business providing construction materials testing services across regional WA.

Due to increase in workload ,we are looking for a trainee to complement our team based in Albany WA.

No experience necessary as all training is provided on the job.
Working hours are 8am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday with some overtime when required.

Applicants MUST have a MANUAL drivers licence.
WE are looking for a local who is hard-working, enthusiastic and keen to learn a new skill.

The position will be on a trial basis initially with the potential to come on board full time as a trainee and complete a Cert 4 in Laboratory Techniques.

Great Southern Geotechnics are looking for a new member to join the team in the Albany office.
We are looking for someone that can multitask and is willing to take on various roles not only in the front of office but behind the scenes in the laboratory.
Duties would include, but not limited to...
Greet & welcome clients, visitors & employees in a friendly & professional manner.
Taking messages & relay information accurately.
Manage the reception area, ensuring clean, organised & presentable at all times
Assist with taking client details and details of testing required.
Monitor and maintain office supplies, anticipating needed supplies & placing orders.
Administrative Support:
Provide administrative support ( i.e. data entry) to the management team & staff.
Handle incoming & outgoing mail & distribute correspondence.
Maintain & update files & office records
Assist with bookkeeping (i.e. scan and uploading document)
Standard working hours would be 7.30am to 2pm Monday to Friday with the potential for longer hours if required.
Previous experience preferred but not essential as training will be provided.
