TRAINEES WANTED - Soil Technicians
Looking for a career change of just getting into the workforce?
GSG are seeking a motivated and reliable Trainee Technicians to join our Construction Materials Testing (CMT) team based in ALBANY WA.
This entry-level role provides hands-on training in the laboratory and field, where you will learn to perform a wide range of soil, aggregate, and concrete tests in accordance with Australian & Main Roads WA Standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Assist with the sampling, preparation, and testing of soil, aggregate, concrete, and other construction materials to relevant test methods.
*Carry out basic laboratory tasks including weighing, measuring, mixing, curing, and recording test samples.
*Assist in field testing activities such as:
Nuclear Density compaction testing.
Perth Sand Penetrometer (PSP) and Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) testing.
Concrete sampling and slump testing.
Stockpile and In-Situ sampling.
*Accurately record and report test results in line with company quality systems.
*Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environment in both lab and field settings.
*Follow Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) procedures at all times.
SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
*Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
*Physically fit and able to work outdoors in varying conditions.
*Good communication and teamwork skills.
*Willingness to learn and follow instructions.
*Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Word/Excel).
*Current driver’s licence (manual required).
*White Card.
QUALIFICATIONS
*No prior experience required – full training will be provided.
CAREER PATHWAY
*Technicians will commence on a three-month probationary period. Upon successful completion, they may be offered a traineeship beginning with a Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques.
*This trainee role offers on-the-job training with opportunities to gain formal qualifications such as:
*Certificate IV in Laboratory Skills (Construction Materials Testing).
*NATA-accredited training in soil, aggregate, and concrete testing.
*Progression into Laboratory Technician, Field Technician, or Senior CMT roles.
