Did you know that smoke alarms only have a 10 year life span? That means that 10 years after the date of instalment your smoke alarm may not be working effectively! Over those 10 years it is recommended that the battery be replaced every year or if the power supply is interrupted frequently it would be a good idea to replace it more often. Even though they are hard wired they rely on the battery when the power goes off.

How do you tell how old your smoke alarm is? Most smoke alarms either flip, slide or twist open depending on the design. You can see how old a smoke alarm is by looking at the date code on the sticker located near the 9v battery.

If your not sure if your house is compliant, whether you own your own home, an investment property or are thinking about buying, selling or renting a property, give us a call and we can do a full compliance test of your smoke alarms, RCDs and main earth spike, replacing and upgrading if needed while onsite.

Recently the boys spent a week at a local dairy farm upgrading the incoming supply from a maxed out 125amp 3 phase system with an inadequate diesel generator to a 160amp 3 phase supply with a new 138kva diesel generator. This now runs the whole farm including milking, milling, workshops and the farm house all located on property, for two full days without the need to refuel!

Check out this cool light we installed recently! The owner of the house had been waiting 5 years to find the perfect home for this whopping 30kg Murano Glass light fitting. What better place then in the stairwell of her brand new house!
The fitting was a tricky one to install, with each piece of hand blown glass having to be clipped on individually. But we think it was worth the steady hands!

Here is an example of a switchboard upgraded from fuses to new RCDs making it not only compliant for sale or rent but also much safer and user friendly for the current owners. We also replaced the light switch that had all the switches popping out and the PowerPoint that was full of years of dust and dirt.

22 Newbey street (off Chesterpass road) is where you can now find us.
