Caleb's out here with a couple of beautiful Poincianas and dropping some actual arborist knowledge while he's at it.

Those cuts you can see? They're called growth point and collar cuts, and there's a very specific reason we make them. When pruning is done correctly, the tree grows over the wound naturally rather than going into stress and throwing out a heap of reactive regrowth. That reactive regrowth is called epicormic growth, and it's exactly what happens when someone makes dodgy cuts without knowing what they're doing.

See those little circular growth points on the trunk? That's the tree doing its job, growing over the wound properly and not stressing out. That's what good pruning looks like.

So next time you see an arborist up a tree, you'll know what to look for. And what NOT to look for. 👀🌳
