Hey guys, here’s a sneak peek at one of our current jobs underway. Unfortunately we had to completely rebuild this retaining wall after issues caused by the previous contractor.

They installed an ag pipe but didn’t use any drainage stone behind the wall, and also lined the back of the wall with black plastic which traps water and creates massive pressure on retaining walls over time.

So we had no option but to start again and do it properly — installing a minimum of 1400mm of drainage stone behind the wall along with an ag pipe wrapped in filter cloth for proper drainage and long term stability.

We also use geofabric behind the wall and around the drainage stone, basically creating a “stone burrito.” Unlike plastic, geofabric is designed to let water filter through while keeping soil out of the drainage system. This helps minimise pressure behind the wall and adds strength, stability, and longevity to the retaining wall.

Sometimes doing it properly the first time saves doing it twice 👌

This week at Ando’s Turf & Earthworks we knocked over a solid job for a good mate 💪

We excavated and installed a 38m long, 1200mm high concrete sleeper retaining wall, built to last. Backfilled with proper drainage stone to ensure longevity and keep everything flowing as it should 👌
