Solar Aftersales is Important!
When it comes to solar and battery systems, reliable after-sales support is critical. That’s why choosing a local company makes all the difference. Unlike out-of-town installers who might disappear after a few days, a local business employs local people and is always close by when you need help.
We’ve all heard the stories: “I had an issue with my solar system, but the company is hours away and won’t come back.” Don’t let that happen to you. A local supplier might cost a little more upfront, but you’re investing in long-term reliability and peace of mind.
Solar systems are complex. You want a team that’s nearby and ready to assist whenever you need them.

Are Batteries Worth It?
We’re here at All Energy 2024, and I’m Mark Schild from Photon Solar, serving the Alice Springs area and beyond. One thing is clear—the grid is becoming less and less stable. Installing solar panels is a great start, but combining solar with battery storage is the best way to achieve true energy independence. With ageing infrastructure that can’t keep up with continuous energy export, more people are turning to batteries to avoid giving excess power back to the grid.
At Photon Solar, we’re proud to be the trusted local installer for solar and battery systems. If you’re within a couple of hundred kilometres of Alice Springs and want reliable energy solutions, we’re here to help.
Upgrading Old Solar Systems
Wondering if solar really saves you money? Many Aussies with older systems aren’t seeing the big savings they hoped for. With over a million solar setups now 10+ years old, many are small and outdated, only covering 15–20% of a home’s power. Back then, solar was pricey, so households installed smaller systems.
Today, things have changed. Solar panel prices have dropped massively, making it affordable to install larger, more powerful systems that can cover your whole bill! So, if your solar system is still delivering high bills, it might be time for a check-up or an upgrade.

Are Solar Batteries Worth It?
Are home solar batteries worth it? Absolutely. With falling solar export rates and rising power costs, storing energy in a home battery is a smart move. Your battery charges during the day, ready to power your evening needs—so you rely less on costly grid electricity.

After getting your solar system and battery installed, you might think you’re done—but that’s not the case! A great local solar retailer will stay in touch, offering ongoing support to ensure everything runs smoothly.
If your power bill seems unusually high, it’s a good idea to send it to your installer and ask them to double-check your system’s performance. Sometimes small issues can affect your savings, and having a local supplier to rely on makes all the difference.
Good after-sales support is key to keeping your solar system in top shape and ensuring you get the most out of your investment.

How to TACKLE your energy bills
Every year, energy prices in Australia skyrocket—by 10, 15, or even 30%! If you're like most households, you're spending between $2,000 and $4,000 annually on electricity. Turning off the aircon and sitting in the cold isn't the answer.
Take control of your power bill by partnering with a trusted local solar installer. A high-quality solar system is your first step. Consider oversizing your PV system now so you can easily add a battery in the future.

Landlords in Australia, here's a win-win! 🌞 Installing solar on your rental property isn't just good for the planet—it's good for your pocket too. You can depreciate the system over time, potentially letting tax deductions cover the cost.
Plus, happier tenants with lower energy bills could mean you can increase rent slightly while still giving them big net savings.

How to size your solar battery
Solar batteries let you store excess energy instead of sending it back to the grid. To size a battery, check your electricity bill for average daily consumption over 12 months, and estimate what's used during the day and night.
For example, if you use 30 kWh daily—15 at night and 15 during the day—you'll need at least a 15 kWh battery. But your solar system must be big enough to handle your needs and still charge the battery.
To get it right, balance your roof size, solar system, and daily consumption to find the perfect battery size. Looking for a quality solar and battery system? Contact us for a free quote
Depending on the time of year, you'll get more energy from your solar system in summer than in winter. The difference between a sunny day and a rainy day can be significant—on a rainy day, you might get only 10 to 40 per cent of the energy you'd get on a beautiful day.
For example, if your solar system produces 40 kWh on a sunny day, you might expect around 25 kWh on an overcast day and only 10-12 kWh on a really bad rainy day.

So, you bought a cheap solar system, and it stopped working after three years. The company that installed it is no longer around. Now you’ve called us for help. This situation is not uncommon. We do our best to assess the problem; however, you might need to spend $2,000 to get it fixed after already investing $4,000. Even then, you’re left with a half-working system. Or, you might need to pull the whole thing off and start again, costing you $7,000.
As an installer and business owner, the risks involved in trying to fix such systems are significant. If we attempt to fix it, we essentially take ownership of it. If another part we didn’t fix fails, you’ll call us again, and that’s more money. This is why we are often reluctant to touch it in the first place.
Buying a cheap solar system often means the company disappears, making it hard for owners to find anyone willing to service it.
