Lest we forget.

Today on ANZAC Day, we pause to remember the courage, sacrifice, and mateship of the men and women who have served and continue to serve our country.

We honour those who gave everything, laying down their lives so that others may live in freedom.

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

Out with the old, in with the new. 🔨

This tired old deck was due for a refresh, so we replaced it with Ekodeck composite decking — built to last and designed to handle the elements. With no ongoing maintenance and a 25-year guarantee, it’s a great long-term solution for outdoor areas.

A good reminder that the small details matter when it comes to building for longevity. 🛠️🏠

We recently replaced and repaired 27 external window architraves on a 3-year-old home where the cut edges hadn’t been sealed. When timber cut ends are left unsealed, they can absorb moisture over time, which can lead to swelling, movement and early deterioration.

We also had to replace sections of external cladding where the nails had started to rust. In coastal areas, using the correct fixings is critical, as salt in the air can cause standard nails to corrode and stain the timber.

Sealing all cut edges and using stainless steel fixings, especially near the ocean, are simple steps that help protect the timber and ensure the finish lasts for many years.

It might seem like small details during construction, but they make a big difference in how well things hold up over time. Doing things properly the first time is always the goal — it saves headaches down the track and keeps homes looking good for longer.

Extension update — making great progress on this one. 🔨

External cladding is now complete, tiling is almost finished, and we’ve just broken through into the existing house to connect the new space. Always a big milestone when the old and new finally come together.

Not far from the finish line now. Built solid and built to last.

The wife’s gone back to work… which apparently means my desk is no longer my desk. 😅

Instead of arguing ownership rights, I took the practical approach — build another one.

Custom Tasmanian Oak desk with a clean waterfall end, tucked perfectly into this little workspace. Simple, functional and built solid.

Sometimes the best solution is just to make sawdust.

Watch this space to see the final touches come together for the new workspace. 👌

As the year comes to a close, we’d like to thank all of our clients, builders, and subcontractors for the support and work throughout the year.

At McGrath Carpentry Solutions, we truly couldn’t do what we do without you. Your trust, hard work, and ongoing support mean a lot to our team, and we’re grateful for every project and opportunity.
We’re now taking a well-earned break and will be away until 12/01/26, returning refreshed and ready for a big year ahead.
