Firearm Traders Association of Victoria Welcomes Practical Outcome of Victorian Fi****ms Review
The Firearm Traders Association of Victoria welcomes the Victorian Government’s measured and practical response to the Ken Lay fi****ms review and acknowledges the leadership of Jacinta Allan in adopting a balanced and common-sense approach to fi****ms regulation in Victoria.
The Association is pleased that the outcome of the review recognises the strong and effective fi****ms framework already operating within Victoria and confirms there will be no broad re-categorisation of fi****ms and no unreasonable changes to the number of fi****ms able to be lawfully owned by licensed individuals.
This sensible approach reflects the facts identified during the review process and ensures that law-abiding firearm owners, sporting shooters, hunters, primary producers, and pest controllers are not unfairly blamed or unnecessarily burdened by additional regulation.
Victoria already has some of the strictest and most heavily regulated fi****ms laws in Australia. Licensed firearm owners are subject to rigorous background checks, ongoing compliance obligations, secure storage requirements, and continuous oversight by authorities.
The Firearm Traders Association of Victoria supports any legislative measures that genuinely target criminal misuse of fi****ms and strengthen community safety by keeping fi****ms out of the hands of criminals and individuals who do not meet the strict licensing requirements already in place.
The Association and its members welcome the new arrangements and believe the outcome restores confidence within Victoria’s legal fi****ms industry while preserving the rights and activities of responsible licensed firearm owners across recreational shooting, hunting, farming, and pest control sectors.
Licensed fi****ms dealers throughout Victoria continue to play a critical role in supporting the administration and enforcement of fi****ms laws in partnership with the Victorian Police Licensing and Regulation Division. Dealers undertake significant responsibilities relating to the lawful sale, transfer, storage, record keeping, and compliance management of fi****ms across the state.
The Association acknowledges the ongoing recognition by Victoria Police of the important role fi****ms dealers play in assisting with the day-to-day operation of Victoria’s fi****ms regulatory framework and their contribution to maintaining high standards of compliance among both new and existing licensed firearm owners.
The Firearm Traders Association of Victoria looks forward to continuing to work constructively with the Victorian Government and Victoria Police to ensure fi****ms regulation remains effective, practical, and focused on public safety while respecting the rights of lawful firearm owners.
