This week Carlyle Painting had the opportunity to give some new life to one of Ararats iconic buildings by freshening up the walls in Alexandra Hall.
The history of Alexandra Hall spans over a century of Ararat’s civic and social life.
Militia Drill Hall: The structure was originally built as a drill hall to accommodate local military personnel and for community militia use.
Early Cinema Use: By the early 20th century, the building was transitioned into a cinema, entertaining the gold-mining town before dedicated picture theatres were built.
Community Hub: Today, the facility is managed by the Alexandra Hall Community Asset Committee, in conjunction with the Ararat Rural City Council, acting as an essential venue for local sports and community organizations.Current Use and Activities:Ararat Trash & Treasure Market: Held on the second Sunday of each month, this indoor/outdoor market features around 60 stallholders selling handmade goods, plants, and local produce.Sports & Recreation: The hall regularly houses the Ararat Badminton Association and table tennis groups.
We have had a very positive feedback from both the badminton and table tennis associations regarding the new color scheme which aids in being able to pick up the balls and shuttlecock with ease.
