Termites are well known for eating the bodies of their dead nestmates. This allows them to retain valuable nitrogen, which is present in termite bodies but lacking in their wooden food source. However, they only eat their healthy nestmates. They bury pathogen-infested nestmates with nest material!

This customer found Termite workings in his garage and the wall was soft to touch.
He did the right thing by not disturbing or spraying. He called us straight away on Sunday and we were there first thing Monday.
A Termite Inspection was carried out, followed by an Exterra Termite Baiting Program. This is to get the termites feeding and achieving nest and colony eradication."

Why 2026 is a Record Year for Termite Activity
Pest activity is heavily dictated by climate. 2026 has provided a "perfect storm" of high moisture and consistent warmth. Termites thrive in damp environments, and the recent storms followed by intense heat create the ideal "wicking" effect in house frames.

Once termites find a moisture source, such as a leaking tap or a poorly ventilated subfloor, they can consume several kilograms of timber in a matter of weeks. Because they eat from the inside out, the damage is often invisible until it’s structural.
