Plywood getting its time to shine in the Lyons House extension.

Lining the walls, the ceiling and the cabinetry, it moderates the strength of the smooth dark finishes that run through this space. Warm and grounding, but also pale and subtle enough to recede into the background and avoid dominating the interiors.

A delicate adornment which serves as the entryway of Brisbane.

The archways and metalwork of the heritage-listed bank building really steal the show here - and we wanted to pay tribute to them in this new entryway, while still introducing a contemporary layer that would stand out on a busy CBD street.

Curved and metallic, the earthy brown folded steel echoes elements of the bank building’s entry, but it’s also smooth and sleek in a way that contrasts with the textured sandstone and ornate details around it.

Slotting neatly within the existing archway, it feels cohesive while leaving no lasting mark on the bank building. Just how we like it.

Daylesford 1863, a home in three parts.

To the front is the original Parson’s residence, with its heritage details and highly charming street presence. It had endured some questionable renovations from the 80s and 90s, so a key part of our work here was to restore it to its former glory.

To the rear is the new pavilion, a contemporary structure housing the kitchen, dining and living areas which enjoy abundant natural light and open out to the courtyard gardens.

And connecting the two is the gallery: a long hallway for displaying paintings and sculptures, complete with an integrated art hanging track and a concrete plinth. A dedicated space for our clients’ art collection and a moment of pause between old and new.

A relatively small but thoroughly considered pocket of Brisbane: the under-stair passageway.

It’s anchored by a half-arch, which is dressed in spotted gum and stretches overhead to meet itself in the mirrored wall.

Rather than feeling like an afterthought or a forgotten space, it continues the design language of the store - drawing from the natural material palette and referencing the arches of the original 1930 building.
