Building a brighter chapter for Nkowankowa Primary School 📚

Mick recently travelled to South Africa to support The Next Chapter, a volunteer-led initiative to build the first library at Nkowankowa Primary School. This meaningful project will give more than 800 students access to books for the very first time.

The initiative is led by Valanga Khoza, a South African-born storyteller, musician and former youth activist who fled Apartheid in the late 1970s. Today, Valanga lives in Melbourne and returns to South Africa each year with his wife Andrea to give back to the community where he grew up — including Nkowankowa Primary, the school he once attended.

Together with a passionate team, they’re building a permanent space for learning, connection and opportunity. The library will stand for generations to come, offering children a quiet place to read, imagine and grow.

Every donation helps fund the shelves, books and resources needed to bring this vision to life. Contributions over $300 will be acknowledged with your name on a commemorative plaque inside the library.
