Little snippets through the view lines of this gorgeous heritage-listed home in coastal Mount Martha… and what a spectacular first burst of spring colour!

Architectural foliage collides with a beautiful floral bouquet… fiery oranges, soft silvers, golden yellows and blue-grey hues, all dancing together against the timeless stonework of this magnificent home.

There is nothing quite like seeing those first pops of colour after planting… watching a garden come to life, finding its personality and beginning its journey.

And this is only the beginning! Many more years of growth, seasonal surprises and evolving beauty to come…

GAME, SET, GARDEN! 🎾🌿

Who said a tennis court has to look like a tennis court?

For me, a garden is a journey… from the front gate to the very back fence. And why should a tennis court interrupt that beautiful story?

Too often, courts are pushed against boundaries, surrounded by harsh green fencing, becoming mechanical, disconnected spaces… almost like a paddock!

But why not make them part of the garden?

Here, a beautiful theatrical curtain can be drawn across for a game of tennis, then swept back like a ballroom curtain to reveal the garden beyond.

The sculptural planting, the lush Ficus pumila climbing the back wall, the magnificent deep green conifers creating atmosphere and depth… all working together to blur the boundaries between sport and landscape.

It’s about creating a space that feels like a garden first… and a tennis court second!

Because great garden design doesn’t stop at the court line… it flows right through it!

TIMELESS BY DESIGN… 🌿

Nine years on… and not a plant added, not a plant removed. Just a little clipping and the beauty of letting a garden become exactly what it was always intended to be.

Perched high on Mount Martha, this contemporary timber box sits beautifully amongst magnificent old gums that have called this landscape home for decades.

A little architectural drama… towering pencil pines, sculptural cacti, beautifully clipped greenery and soft, windswept grasses. All working together to create something classically elegant, contemporary and wonderfully timeless.

For me, great garden design is about respecting what was here long before us, introducing something new, and allowing the two to become one.

Nine years later… exactly as I imagined it. And designed to look just as beautiful for decades to come.

That’s the magic of a garden designed to last… not just to impress on planting day!

The Hills… bathed in golden spring light! 🌞🌵✨

Our first beautiful spring evening, and what an absolute show Mother Nature has put on!

As the sun begins to set, that magical golden light dances across the architectural foliage… the sculptural yuccas, magnificent agaves, beautiful bottle trees, bold bromeliads and soft, flowing grasses.

Every leaf, every spine, every texture catching the last rays of sunshine… turning the garden into a living piece of art!

And those gorgeous bursts of orange from the flowering pincushions… just the icing on the cake!

This is exactly why we create gardens like this… not just to look at, but to live in, to experience and to enjoy every changing moment.

A glass of something delicious, a beautiful spring evening and nowhere else we would rather be!

THE KROSS HOUSE | MOUNT MARTHA 🌿

A little architectural magic… and a whole lot of CHD garden love!

What an absolute joy to revisit this extraordinary home, designed by the talented team at FIGR Architecture Studio, nestled into the beautiful coastal landscape of Mount Martha.

And what a transformation this garden has been!

Colin Hyett Design was brought on board to completely rethink, redesign and bring the surrounding landscape to life… creating a garden that celebrates the extraordinary architecture while giving the home its very own sense of place.

We wanted something that felt beautifully Australian… a little wild, wonderfully sculptural and effortlessly coastal.

Silvery foliage, architectural trees, sweeping golden grasses, sculptural succulents, natural boulders and lush green groundcovers all come together to create layers of texture, movement and interest.

And those fabulous oversized concrete stepping stones, floating through carpets of green… what an entrance!

I absolutely adore the relationship between the warmth of the timber architecture and the softness of the landscape. Every plant, every rock and every pathway has its place, but nothing feels overly contrived.

It’s contemporary coastal gardening with a little CHD theatre thrown in for good measure!

For me, a great garden should never compete with beautiful architecture. It should embrace it, soften it, celebrate it… and make the entire property feel like one extraordinary experience.

From redesign through to the final planting, this has been such a rewarding project for our CHD team.

And seeing it now, beautifully settled into its surroundings, is exactly why we love doing what we do!

Welcome to CLUB PARADISO … where 1960s Californian glamour meets spectacular contemporary architecture and one seriously fabulous Colin Hyett Design garden!

Think Slim Aarons poolside glamour … cocktails at noon … luscious manicured lawns … extraordinary sculptural cacti, magnificent aloes, exotic succulents, rich burgundy bromeliads and pops of electric orange … all dancing around that glorious turquoise swimming pool!

And the backdrop? Dramatic charcoal architecture, volcanic stone, incredible textures and layers upon layers of lush, architectural planting.

Well, this is one way to be taken out for lunch!!! 💚🏎️

A little spin in the most spectacular Lamborghini Urus… and I think I have just found my next ride!!!

What an extraordinary piece of Italian engineering and design! That outrageous custom fluorescent green interior, the carbon fibre detailing, the sheer luxury… and more bells and whistles than I could possibly mention!!!

Every little detail is a work of art. Absolutely fabulous, completely over the top, and SO ME!!!

Now… I just need to work out how to get one parked in my driveway!!! 💚😂

18 MONTHS ON… WHEN ARCHITECTURE MEETS THE GARDEN! 🌿

Working with architectural homes can be so incredibly inspiring…

Big, bold architectural shapes become the most wonderful canvases for gardens filled with colour, texture, movement and a little CHD magic!

Sculptural aloes, brilliant pops of fiery red and orange pincushions, carpets of silvery-blue foliage… softened by whimsical planting and delicate filigrees of golden canopies dancing across enormous glass windows.

All capturing the glistening spring sunshine of the Mornington Peninsula, with the magnificent blues of Port Phillip Bay beyond.

18 months after planting, this garden is really beginning to tell its story… Layers are coming together, colours are bursting into life, and the relationship between architecture, landscape and the surrounding coastline is becoming something quite spectacular.

For me, garden design is never just about the plants… It’s about creating atmosphere, emotion and a sense of place.

Big, bold architecture… softened by the beautiful unpredictability of nature.

And what a joy it is to watch it all grow!

Today in the CHD design office… 🌿

A little coastal magic taking shape in the back streets of Mount Martha…

Tucked away on a dirt road, surrounded by beautiful native bushland and just moments from the beach, this new CHD garden is all about embracing its setting …. soft coastal grasses, sculptural Banksias, silvery foliage, warm stone, natural timbers and those little hits of burnt orange that I absolutely love.

And this one feels particularly special… these gorgeous clients have already created one garden with CHD, and now, as they move onto their second build, we get to dream up garden number two together. What a joy it is when a client comes back and says… let’s do it all again! 🤍

Architecture, interiors and garden all speaking the same language… relaxed, textural, Australian and completely at home in Mount Martha.

From today’s CHD office renderings… the beginning of another beautiful coastal garden. 🌾🌿🧡

Thirteen months on… and look at her go! 🌷🌿✨

My gorgeous friend Millie Savage’s garden has completely come alive. What started as a garden we designed and planted together has grown into this wonderfully wild, layered tapestry of colour… tulips and bulbs popping up everywhere, grasses moving through it all, artichokes standing like sculptures and flowers weaving in and out wherever they please.

There is something so special about creating gardens with dear friends… a bit of design, a bit of instinct, lots of companion gardening and then watching it all settle into their life.

Spring in Millie’s garden… relaxed, romantic, a little wild and absolutely bursting with personality. And now with her beautiful new horse amongst it all, I think the picture might just be complete! 🐴🌸

Congratulations my gorgeous friend… thirteen months in and your garden is an absolute joy. Just imagine where it will be in another thirteen! 💚
