TIPs of the Season!
Tis the season to deck the halls and building decks (in the Southern Hemisphere)!
For all you DIYers - please if you want to ensure your new deck remains in excellent condition for years to come, it is very important to pick a quality stain/sealant for your new decking timber and to apply two coats of stain to all sides of your decking boards before installing.
This may seem like a waste of time and money for the underside of the deck that you might never see again BUT this will ensures your boards are properly protected and will also reduce the effects of rising dampness causing; cupping, splitting, rot or insects getting into the decking boards and having a good feed.
I have personally have seen decks that have not held the test of time and the biggest cause, were a result of top staining a deck only! It may seem faster and cheaper BUT only in the short term, because you’ll be replace those decking boards sooner than later!
So if you are decking this season, Merry Decking, and please ensure your investment is protected on all sides for a solid safe long future of enjoyment!
Happy Holidays!
