A wonderful initiative, happy to have Ari on the team ⚡️
HOST SPOTLIGHT: Hindmarsh Electrical
Todd started his own business in 2022, after working in the trade for 12 years. He spent most of his working life in South Australia, but moved to the Central Coast in 2018 with the desire to run his own business.
Recognising that work was going well and that he needed an extra hand here and there, Todd reached out to us to help him find a School Based Apprentice in Electrical. We got to work and hired Ari, a local high school student looking to kick off his career as an Electrician.
"I chose to go with a school-based apprentice as I wasn’t looking for someone full-time yet but still needed a hand here and there. I also believe it’s important for kids to finish their HSC and enjoy school whilst they still can before the real world!" said Todd.
A school-based apprenticeship is a great way for students to gain experience in the industry and prepare them for a trade, while remaining at school to complete their studies. The average week for a School Based Apprentice or Trainee (SBAT) consists of 3 days of high school, 1 day of TAFE/External Training and 1 day of on-the-job work, which they are paid for. SBAT's can also choose to pick up extra hours in the holidays if they're looking for a bit of extra money!
When asked about an SBAT, Todd told us "It’s a great initiative to finish your schooling and complete some TAFE at the same time. I strongly believe that schooling can help you get through TAFE. I would highly encourage other small businesses (or large) that don’t need a full-time employee yet to look into a school-based apprentice - especially with CCGT looking after them! Plus there’s always the option to put them on full-time if things are going well. "
We are excited to see Ari progress through his studies and work towards his qualification, and know he has a fantastic supervisor and host employer in Todd at Hindmarsh Electrical!
