After 15 years as a qualified carpenter and joiner, I’ve used just about every timber finish available in Australia—including many of the most popular hardwax oils.
Like many tradespeople, I was often left disappointed. Some products looked great initially, but over time they simply didn’t deliver the durability or performance needed to confidently stand behind our work.
So instead of accepting “good enough”, we started testing.
Not for days or weeks, but over years. We compared products, pushed them to their limits, and only kept the ones that consistently performed.
Our goal wasn’t to find the newest product or the one with the biggest marketing budget. It was to find finishes that genuinely worked—products we would trust on our own projects and confidently recommend to our customers.
At Harrwoods Timber Coatings, we’re not here to sell you whatever’s on the shelf. We’re here to share real trade knowledge backed by real experience. Every product we offer is one we’ve personally tested, used and believe in.
Too often, products are sold on clever marketing rather than proven performance. We wanted to change that.
That’s why we’ve partnered with manufacturers whose products have already stood the test of time. These aren’t new or experimental formulas—some have been trusted by professionals for more than 50 years and continue to prove themselves project after project.
We’ve done the hard work, so you don’t have to.
