Glen Park Oaks Community Garden

Glen Park Oaks Community Garden Volunteer gardeners meet every Saturday morning at Glen Park Oaks Community Garden between 10:00-12:00 for working bees.

Welcome to Glen Park Oaks Community Garden – your local space to grow, connect, and learn! 🌿
Proudly owned and overseen by Maroondah City Council, and lovingly cared for by volunteers of all ages. 🌱 A community garden owned and overseen by Maroondah City Council that is maintained by a group of dedicated volunteers.🌳

Located at 30 Glen Park Road
Bayswater North. Anyone is welcome to pop down and

join in. On the first Saturday of every month a Permaculture Swap is held at 10:00 offering the opportunity to swap excess produce, plants, seeds or equipment. We welcome everyone whether or not they have something to swap as it's a great opportunity to meet like minded people over a cuppa. Workshops are held regularly so keep an eye on our facebook feed or events page for details of these. The Glen Park Oaks Community Garden does not operate on an individual ‘plot’ basis. Instead it is a shared communal space for gardening, interacting and learning. Owned and managed by Maroondah City Council, its aim is to focus on, and share, the benefits provided by gardening – where the harvest is just an added bonus! From Tiny Shoots to a Lush Green Bed! 🌿

A few weeks ago, our garden volunteers and little helpers rolled up their sleeves to plant green leafy salads — and just look at them now! 🥬💚

With some sunshine, watering, and plenty of love, our salad patch is growing gorgeously. Huge thanks to everyone who joined in planting, watering, and caring for this bed — teamwork truly makes the garden bloom! 🌼👩‍🌾👦

🌿✨ Garden to Plate: Edible Flowers in Your Salad! 🌸🥗

Today at the garden we harvested something extra special – a fresh green leaf salad mixed with colourful edible flowers. Not only does it look beautiful, but it’s also safe, nutritious and a joy to eat when grown with care.

🌿 AUGUST GARDENING JOBS – Spring Starts Now!
It’s the perfect time to prep your garden for a blooming and productive spring 🌼
Here are 5 things to do this month:
🥗 1. Grow Your Salad Greens Early
Start lettuce, rocket, and mizuna now to enjoy a fresh harvest before summer stress kicks in. Enrich soil with compost and feed fortnightly for lush growth.

🌸 2. Sow Summer Flowers
Sow larger seeds like sunflowers and marigolds directly, but start tiny seeds like petunias in trays. Use mist spray and clear covers for better germination.

🧑‍🌾 3. Prepare Garden Beds for Spring
Clear weeds and old crops, spread compost and fertiliser, and water well to wake up the soil for spring planting.

🍋 4. Plant New Fruit Trees
August is perfect for planting citrus, deciduous, and tropical fruit trees. Avoid letting young trees fruit too early to ensure healthy growth.

✂️ 5. Prune Winter-Flowering Shrubs
Give camellias, lavenders, banksias, and grevilleas a gentle trim. Pruning now boosts spring growth—leave some seeds for birds by trimming gradually.

🌱 Our peas are popping up! 🌱
About a month ago, one of our youngest garden Helpers planted peas with the help of a kind guidance of a senior volunteer. Together, they built a little support using sticks and string—ready for the peas to climb as they grow 🫛
Today, we spotted the first little leaves coming through! 🫛💚

It was a lovely moment of learning, sharing, and connection across generations 💚
Thank you to all our volunteers—young and young-at-heart—for helping the garden grow 🌼
Swipe through to see the journey.
