Don’t forget to release the pressure in your hot water tank every 6 months by lifting the little handle on the brass valve, on the side of the tank towards the top! Once water comes out the bottom of the pipe, let it go! It is a pressure and temperature release valve, if it chokes up with rust etc, you could pop your tank! It is recommended that you replace the valve every 5 years!

TIPS; just a small tip. If you are planning on going on holidays for a period of time. Turn your water off at the water meter and open your hot and cold taps briefly, to release built up pressure! this will reduce strain on your pipework helping to prevent burst pipes or burst flexi hoses on your taps! Secondly, turn your hot water system to "pilot" so that you are not heating water that wont be used whilst you are away! This tip could save you having costly water bills/repairs once you return, and will save you on your gas consumption. Dont forget that you will need to turn it back on when you get home and the hot water will need approx 45mins to an hour to reheat.
