We received a phone call by the owners of this house, asking us to strip out this old deck and reinstall new treated pine decking. Upon inspection and strip out stage, we came across a few things that may surprise you.
- rotten decking boards across the whole 250 lineal metres.
- 100% evidence of termites eating through the boards and joists
- no deck protection on joists
- rotten and termite destroyed joists
- decking boards laid upside down
It may not seem like a big deal, but if a deck like this isn't treated right, and termites eat through it like they have here, one day you will be stepping out onto your balcony and most likely go straight through it. Which is something we most definitely don't want happening!
On a positive note - this deck was stripped and fitted with new treated pine decking, and a coat of clear oil sealer was applied, all in a matter of 8 hours!
