First day of Spring! It smells and feels like it too. Brisk mornings and mild afternoons this week here in Benalla. The blooms are in - the scent of freesias wafting, daffodils popping and tulips (spot the green ones) about to unfurl. And the heady magnolias… The local support of our flower cart has been fantastic! Thanks to all of you who are supporting us 💚🌿 whether that’s through purchasing or social media support. It means we can grow more local blooms - harvesting one day and in your home the next. 💚✅ The flower cart has been restocked. And as the blooms come in, there will be daily deliveries to The Merchant Benalla - Breakfast + Lunch Cafe. Now to getting in The Garden on Grant to get my winter jobs finished 🤭💚✅

Something beautiful for you or joy for another?💚🌿

Our gorgeous little flower cart has been stocked and is now at The Merchant in Benalla. It’s located just inside the front door. Anemones, orchids, hellebores, snapdragons and daffodils this week. 💚🌿

And the big flower cart? That’ll be popping up when the Spring flowers are in - Delphiniums, Stock, Larkspur, Snapdragons, Sweet William, Roses, Peonies (by special order) and other cottage garden favourites. It’ll also be available for events - a bloom bar for a hens party? A blooms and bubbles afternoon? Posies and Prosecco? Event and Christmas bookings now being taken. More to share on this soon. 💚🌿

I love learning and time saving tricks are the best!!! Using a tent or fabric ‘u’ peg has saved me hours and kept the roots of my plant babies in tact. Thank you whoever shared this 👏🙏💚🌿

Beautiful gardens need thoughtful, specialised maintenance from their owners or a trusty pair of hands for them to bloom and provide abundance! Yesterday I had the pleasure of spending the day tidying these vines and orchard here in Benalla. It feels good to share experiences with other garden lovers and provide design and plant maintenance assistance. The framework had been created many years ago so keeping this going was important to the owner 💚🌿

The verandah vines after a cut back… my years pruning vineyards as a teenager comes in handy! A tiny spot of sunshine amid the rain showers and freezing weather. Very squishy underfoot…

Clippings off to the burn pile (some saved for wreath making too)…

Before the orchard was cut back…

The orchard after a haircut to keep the trees manageable and within the structures provided while encouraging the fruit spurs to develop… I always leave very tidy piles of clippings so you can pop them in a vase to bud inside or add them to the burn pile 💚🌿

It’s still rising. Waking up to this water view is amazing and a little terrifying at the same time. Front row seats to nature this morning…

My mulch pile going under… grateful it has stopped raining after recording over 70mms here… the river red gums are soaking it all up… I wonder how many seasons they’ve seen… some say over 250…

Grateful we pulled the pumps up when we had the deluge the other month…

And a grey kangaroo finding its way through the waters this morning. I love this ever changing view from my studio (although I’m down at the riverside this morning)!
