Ben Waiwai came to Aus to shear Merinos. He's now shorn plenty but last week he added some entirely different animals to his repertoire ...Angora goats and an Alpaca 😆
Ben also competed in a West Australian Competition Shearing Association event, the Koorda Shears. He didn't place but he learned lots. Well done Ben 👏🏻

Small sheep farmers are important too 🩷
Woo recently spent a morning shearing a friend's small flock. Farmer Katy's family were all involved and her father Ron whipped up a last minute wool table out of an old trampoline. Even her girls were put to work 😍

Lucky I was able to head out to take some team photos yesterday. It was already raining so no work today 😩 Faulkner's is my favourite shed as it is spacious for shed staff, well set out, raised board and good lighting ... and the farmer (Stuart) and his staff are very welcoming.

Thanks to all our great staff Courts, Geoff, Warrick (Woo), Jenna, Ben, Rosie, Ana and Justin 👏🏻❤️

They also have a gold standard staff toilet 😂

Congratulations to Ben Waiwai on shearing his first 100 in big Merinos. 120 for the day!

What makes this achievement even more special is that Ben has not been shearing for long ... in New Zealand. He and partner Ana arrived in Bencubbin just over a week ago 👏🏻

Many thanks to AWI trainers Kevin Gellatly and Amanda Davis for coming here last week to teach Ben the art of shearing big Wheatbelt Merinos. He learned well 😊

It's been a long time since I posted any photos of the team in action.

In April of 2024 we decided to only run one team. We could see what was happening with the Live Export ban and also with younger farmers taking over the family businesses.
Most young farmers are only interested in cropping ... seasonal bursts of activity and big returns in good years as opposed to constant work with sheep with lower/slower returns.

Whilst initially experiencing some anxious times as to the viability of this decision we are lucky to have a fantastic, stable core team and still have enough sheep farmers to keep us busy for most of the year ... and the industry is looking a lot better than it did last year 🤞🏻

Anyway, shearing at Jeffries 2026.
