In Memory of Corey Martin Holland

It's with heavy hearts that we share the loss of our teammate, Corey, who passed away last week.

Anyone who worked with Corey knew him as, quite simply, the nicest person you could meet. Not in a passing and polite way. A genuinely, consistently kind. He had a warmth and politeness of heart that set the standard for what we hope to be, both as colleagues and as people.

Corey always wanted the people around him to understand what he was doing and to feel comfortable while he did it. He never left anyone behind, never made anyone feel small for asking a question. He put others before himself, quietly and without ever needing credit for it.

It was an absolute privilege to know Corey. He will be missed more than words can really capture. Our thoughts are with his family and everyone who loved him during this difficult time.

⚡ Does your switchboard look like this?

Old ceramic fuse boards were fitted in many older homes decades ago. If yours looks like the one pictured, here's what you're really dealing with, and how we fix it.

⚠️ Why this board isn't safe by today's standards

Boards like this were built for a different era. Here's what's missing, and what's gone wrong.

1. Fuse wire instead of circuit breakers

A strand of wire that melts when it's overloaded. It's slow to react, and it can be rewired with the wrong gauge, which makes it a serious fire hazard. Circuit breakers these days are load limiting and far more reliable.

2. No safety switches (RCDs)

There's nothing here to protect anyone in the home from electric shock if a fault occurs. Modern wiring rules require every final sub circuit, your lights, your power circuits, your oven circuit, anything like that, to have RCD protection on it.

3. Age, wear and exposed parts

Cracked ceramic, dust and cobweb build-up, and live terminals that are far more accessible than a modern enclosed board. Some boards of this age may also have asbestos backing, which we assess on site.

✅ What we'll do

We replace the whole board with a modern, enclosed switchboard that meets current wiring standards.

✓ A proper main switch.

✓ An RCBO on every circuit. This combines a circuit breaker and a safety switch into one device that monitors that single circuit. The benefit is that if it ever trips, you only lose power to that one circuit, not half your house. Some homes have a single RCD monitoring three or more circuits at once, so when it trips you lose a large portion of your power, lights and appliances, which can be very frustrating.

✓ Correctly rated circuit breakers instead of fuse wire.

✓ Clear, labelled circuits so you know exactly what's what.

✓ Safe handling and disposal of the old board if asbestos is present.

✓ A full electrical inspection by our private electrical inspector, who comes highly recommended and holds every job to a strict, by the book standard. We feel completely confident having them review our work to make sure everything meets full compliance.

✓ A tidy, compliant installation, tested and certified, with a Certificate of Electrical Safety on completion.
